Secure Server - What Does It Take?

What does it take to make a Web server a "secure server"?

I need to serve some images from my IIS6 server and they must be accessible
via https.

I have never set up a server to work with https.

How can I accomplish this? Where do I start?

Thanks

Hi Jeremy,

Its quite a simple process, detailed here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000...re/iisslsc.htm

You need to purchase a certificate at some point, I recently used
Verisign:
http://www.verisign.com/products-ser...ssl/index.html
(There are other vendors out there).

Verigisn offer a trial certificate for free - Good if you want to have
a play:
http://www.verisign.com/products-ser...es/free-trial/

Once you've got the certificate installed, simply link to the content
which needs to transported via SSL by using HTTPS// instead of HTTP://

You may want to configure the server to ensure that the content is ONLY
accessible via SSL. I'm pretty sure this is possible, although I've
never tried it myself.

HTH! :-)

Hello, I have a page such that each user can see only a corresponding (personal) part of the page. In the beginning I wanted to perform initialization of users (by asking there names and passwords and comparing them with names and passwords stored in database), than I planed (if comparison was successful) to set a corresponding value of variable $user_name and on the mentioned page with the help of the "if"-operator to check whether...

Situation: I have to connect with my Windows 2000 server using VS.NET 2003 and C# and connect to a remote Linux server at another company's office and query their XML file. Their file may be updated every hour or so. How can I do this easily? I would like to use secure communication even encryption if possible. I would query and insert locally only the newest records found in that XML file to an xml or MS access db.

I have taken over the website duties at work. I am still learning PHP and MySQL. I want to have a form where the user enters some finacial info and it is stored in a database. It, obviously, needs to be secure. I know how to make the input form secure. But what about retrieving the data? I was thinking I would use a password-protected secure form for that. Is that enough? What if I happen to view the records using PhpMyAdmin? Does...

Hi there, I'm looking for a secure login script for a sort-of-community site... (PHP, MySQL, sessions, or maybe something else ... ) I know there are a lot of scripts out there, but none of them really seem secure, or have other kind of flaws (like IP based login etc.). Why i'm asking here, is because there's experience out there, and i hope experience can tell me what my best shot is. I'm aware that i will very probably have to do...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
