Why does aspnet_regiis -c put the aspnet_client directory under every website?

When you run 'aspnet_regiis -c', the aspnet_client directory is created
under EVERY web site on the IIS server. It seems strange that there
doesn't seem to be any way of running the command so that it only
installs the aspnet_client directory under a specified web site or even
just the .net web sites on the server. I'm running several production
IIS servers that have got a mix of .net and non-.net web sites on them
and I don't want the aspnet_client directory to be installed on the
non-.net web sites when I run aspnet_regiis -c. I know that I could
just create the aspnet_client directory by copying it from another web
site or web server and that would mean I could avoid running the
aspnet_regiis -c command, but it seems that Microsoft haven't really
thought this one through. The alternative seems to be to run the
aspnet_regiis -c command as required and then delete the aspnet_client
directory from the non-.net web sites, although this means performing
the delete on the non-.net web sites after each and every time the
aspnet_regiis -c command is run.

I realise another alternative would be to just leave the aspnet_client
directory on the non-.net web sites, but that seems pretty
unprofessional for production sites that are deployed as complete and
self-contained units that have no need for the aspnet_client directory
to be there.

Has anyone got any comments on this? Have I missed something here
(which is quite possible :->)?

Cheers,
Rich

I have a web server with both v1.0 and v1.1 of the .NET Framework installed. I'm referencing this article (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=820106) to "tell" my web server to run my web application using v1.1. From: WindowsDirectory\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\ I should run aspnet_regiis -s W3SVC/1/ROOT/AppName at the command line. My application is configured as a web site in IIS, rather than a virtual directory under the...

I am currently running IIS 5.0 on my Windows 2000 domain controller. When I try to copy the asp.net client side scripts to the aspnet_client subdirectory of each IIS site directory using the command "aspnet_regiis -i" I receive the following error An error has occurred (0x80070005 You must have administrative rights on this machine in order to run this tool Is this because my server is a domain controller and therefore has no local...

Hi, I've been having problems with the validation controls not working on my deployment server. Initially it was a security issue with the anonymous account not having permissions to access /aspnet_client/system_web/1_1_4322/WebUIValidation.js but I think I've now fixed this. What is happening now is I'm not getting a security issue but the validation is not occuring, the page submits without validation. When

Instead of having a copy of the aspnet_client folder in each site's files on a machine, can a virtual directory/application be made with each site's root in IIS to the machine's c:\inetpub\wwwroot\aspnet_client folder? Would this create security issues? If it is OK to do this, should it be a virtual directory or virtual application?

Weird thing: Got an aspx page with a button and an associated code in VB.net. On my testing server the page works fine. On the old hosters server the page worked fine too. But now, at the new hoster it does not. When I click on the submit button: nothing happens. The only thing that works is form validation.

Don't ask my why we need to do this, I didn't write the website policy :( , but we are deploying to a website where we cannot place any directories directly off web root (i.e. aspnet_client) and therefore we need to tell all those lovely validation controls that their js files have moved. Is there a setting somewhere that we can change to tell the system where aspnet_client is? This is a urgent deployment issue. --Ken

Hi, Having been flamed for my previous HEEEELP! post and called childish, I decided to reframe this problem - I have to have something ready for tomorrow morning, and my server has stopped working and I have no clue how to fix it, hence my original post, sent from a place of severe stress. I rebooted my box for no particular reason other than I had decided to reboot my router. When XP had sorted itself out, I loaded Dev Studio 2003...

Please look at the "what I've already done" section of this message before responding to it: I believe that I've done everything that the people who experience this error are typically told to do. I have created an ASP.NET web service that I have running on my development machine, and am trying to get it to run on my test server. Both machines are running Windows 2000 SP4, IIS 5, and the .NET 2.0 framework. When I attempt to access...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
