Writing your own custom ASP.NET server control

I've decided that we're just going to have to bit the bullet and write our
own server control with client side JavaScript to handle a specific
requirement. Anyone know where in MSDN is the chapter on writing your own
server controls? I can find lots of individual references but not the "root"
:-)

Thanks, Rob.

Spooky, since posting the message I've just ordered this book :-)

Always good to have a recommendation though!

Cheers, Rob.

Hi Rob,

I think the MSDN reference provided by Kevin are good resources for
developing asp.net webserver controls. Also, I think www.asp.net and
www.codeproject.com are always the prefered sites for looking for some good
demos or ideas since there're many community members providing some good
code snippet or sharing experience there.

Hope also helps.

Steven Cheng

When using a custom control. In order to check and see if values have changed one has to implement the IPostBackDataCollection interface. The values returned for the control seem to be simply a string with comma delimited values. For example, if I were to render two text boxes. One with the Value Terry and the Other with the Value 'Burns' I would get the following value Terry,Burns.

I setup some standard Required Field Validation controls and one Custom validation control on an ASP.NET page (within a user control) to validate text entry. I also setup a Summary Control to post all the messages to a message box (ShowMessageBox=true). The required field validation error messages show up in the summary just fine but I can't get the custom validation message to show up if invalid. So far I have the summary control...

Hi Everyone. It has been a long time since my last post. Nevertheless, I have built a custom server control that allows a user to edit text, bolding, italics strike though table insertion and manipulation etc etc. The control works perfectly when placed outside a templated control but when placed in, for instance, a datagrid EditItemTemplate, I get the following error on the DataBind Method: the dreaded "Object not set to a referance"...

I have developed a custom server control that displays a login page that authenticates against AD. The server control works fine, but now I am trying to figure out the best way to output custom html. The HTML output for the server control changes for each application I include the server control in. At first I thought about making an html file and just including it, but this won't work because with the custom html I output two textboxes...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
