"Local Activation permission" Problem when trying to access application

I have a routine which opens a command shell and runs an executable.

This all worked fine until recently, and I noticed that each time the
statement is run, an event is logged in the event viewer stating:

______
The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation
permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{CLS-ID}
to the user ASPNET SID (ID). This security permission can be modified
using the Component Services administrative tool.
______

This references the CLS-ID of the command line program I execute (a file
extraction utility).

However, when I try to grant the appropriate this program the permissions in
Component Services / DCOM Config, it isn't listed!

Does the error mean that the ASPNET user account cannot execute the program?

If so, how can I remedy this if XP does not even list it in the DCOM Config
UI?

Should I be looking somewhere else?

Help!

Running: XP Pro / SP2

Well, as the subject says.... Briefly, when I try to run *any* wizard, I get a simple dialog, stating "Permission Denied", to which I can only click "OK". I suspect this is a windows (XP) problem rather than an actual Access one, as the error only occurs in my power user (and any other) account. It goes away if I am logged on (to windows) as Administrator. Full Permission for Everyone is set on the drive and folder(s)

Just fired it up to see what it looked like. They wanted me to "Activate" the product before the 50th use. Geeze, I paid my money....now they want me to jump through their hoops? Brings back unpleasant memories of Intuit's QuickBooks... When did MS start this? It's not in 2000. 2002?

I've been having a hard time tracking down a very intermittent problem where I get a "permission denied" error when trying to rename a file to something that has just been deleted (on win32). The code snippet that gets repeatedly called is here: ... if os.path.exists(oldPath): os.remove(oldPath) os.rename(newPath, oldPath)

I would like to ask anyone out there, where can I find the "Local Internet Zone" as I had a problem with my application not displaying and saying that I have no authorisation to view this web page but indeed, I am the administrator. Thanks, Crystalite.

Hello, I thought I would do a "sanity check" by asking the experts how to do the following: I need to process external data (it will be in an Access DB table and will be updated daily) into a local Access DB table that has the same structure with additional fields. The local table is prexisting and the designer used an autonumber field as its key. There is a "real key" between the two tables (let's call it PK1 for this discussion (it's...

I am making a web application that would randomly create an activation code and put it in a database. The web application would then send it in an email to the user with a link to go to and enter the activation code. How would I do this? and what sql server data type would I use? I want the activation code to be no longer than 12 characters, have a mix of numbers and letters and have no special symbols.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
