Can't catch the error: HTTP 401.2

Hello,

I have custom errors turned on, and am able to catch errors and send the
user to a friendly page. I have one site with "authentication " turned on.
I would like to send a person who doesn't have access rights to a user
friendly page, but I can't catch the following:

HTTP 401.2 - Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration
Internet Information Services

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Sck10,

Welcome to ASP.NET newsgroup.
As for the
=============
HTTP 401.2 - Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration
Internet Information Services
=============

error you mentioned, it is caused by the IIS's authentication, that means
the error occur when the IIS do the authentication checking. And the
CustomError you mentioned is used to catch and display ASP.NET runtime
exception, it is unable to catch the error occured at IIS layer(before
ASP.NET process the request). So I think we should check the IIS
authentication setting first.

What's the Authentication setting in your IIS's virtual directory for this
asp.net app? You can check it in the IIS management console(inetmgr .exe)
under the virutal dir's "Directory security" settings. And is your client
user from internet or intranet?

Please feel free to let me know if you have anything else unclear, Thanks,

Regards,

Steven Cheng

Another wish of mine. I wish there was a way in the Try Catch structure to say if there wasn't an error to do something. Like an else statement. Try Catch Else Finally. Also because I understand Finally runs whether an error was caught or not, I haven't found a use for finally yet.

I have a Javascript program which runs in the browser and has functions work(), and stop(). It listens to commands from the server to work() and can be interrupted by the server to stop(). I am using XmlHttpRequest to talk to the server. So I use http GET to send a command "ready" to the server, which replies at some point in time by sending "work" which is invoked by the callback. As per my understanding, the browser client is single...

Hello, I come from the VB6 world where we'd put a single ON ERROR GOTO ErrHandler at the top of a method. Now whenever an error happened it would drop into the ErrHandler code. In .Net it seems like you have too many Try/Catch statements all throughout the code. I think this is ugly error handling. Is there a better way to handle exceptions in .Net 2.0 + then putting all these Try/Catch blocks around code? G

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
