Greetings,
I am looking a recommendation for a very specific book. I have been
developing applications/system for over 15 years starting with C++ and
migrating to C#. I am very familiar and comfortable with WinForms, Windows
Services and Web Services. I understand of Web Applications and WebForms
work. I understand sessions, state, error handing, ADO.NET, etc. The skill
that I want to learn is HTML. I can create simple Web Applications but they
are back text and white background. Functional but damn dull. The skills I
am missing are HTML, JScript and, most importantly, how to work with
JScript, DHTML, ASP.NET, CSS all within VS2003/VS2005. I am not a graphic
artist nor do I want to be but I want to be able to create better looking
applications totally from within VS2003/VS2005. Suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Steve 5 1054
Don't get distracted by the title too much - it's an absolutely fantastic
book for learning HTML, CSS, and Client-side Web UI development:
Inside Dreamweaver MX - by Laura Gutman, Patricia J. Ayers and Donald S.
Booth
Also, if you're working with VS.NET 2003, you'll almost certainly want to
use another tool (even Notepad) for your HTML-specific work as there are
some well-known issues with VS.NET 2003 rewriting your HTML for you in
rather unpleasant ways. VS.NET 2005 apparently resolves those issues,
though.
-HTH

You DID say you wanted to learn HTML. HTML is not a Microsoft product. The
W3C makes the recommendations for HTML. Hence, the W3C.Org web site.
It should be noted that while Visual Studio does offer some small (and
flaky) support for HTML, you will never learn HTML from Visual Studio.
Of course, the Microsoft web site has an HTML reference also, but it should
be noted that a lot of IE-only HTML is specified there. Of course, it is
noted in the documentation which HTML elements and behaviors are proprietary
to IE. My point was, if you want your stuff to work in all browsers, you
should go to the horse's mouth for the info.

Hello,
my stylesheet shows different colors for visited, active and hovered links.
It works fine in IE 6, but in Opera 7 the color for the active link (red
background) is never shown. How to explain this?
Here is my code: (code optimization will be done later)

I will be teaching an eCommerce application development course using
ASP.Net after many years of having taught classic ASP. (Course was

I need a textbook recommendation for a particular need.
As I have delved into ASP.Net I find that I want to teach the course by
emphasizing coding in the code behind pages but most of the books
targeted at beginners to ASP use...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
