Non English ascii codes

Hi,

I am developing an english/arabic webpage. I have some fields that should
accept only english characters and other fields that should accept only
arabic. I use a custom validator for this. How can I figure out whether each
one of those fields contain the appropriate values.

Giving me the ascii ranges (or at least how to figure out the arabic ones)
would be sufficient.

I would need to do this in client and server side (both VB)

There's no Arabian ASCII. You would need to use Unicode (e.g. UTF-8 or
UTF-16 for the page encoding) here.

Hopefully, all relevant Arabian characters have subsequent Unicode code
points, so you would just need to check whether a char lies in a
certain range. If not, you have to create some sort of lookup table.

I don't know if JavaScript supports Unicode. If it does, the approach
is the same.

Cheers,

Hi, I have an Html document that declares that it uses the utf-8 character set. As this document is editable via a web interface I need to make sure than high-ascii characters that may be accidentally entered are properly represented when the document is served. My programming language allows me to get the ascii value for any individual character so what I am doing when a change is saved is to look at each character in the content and...

Hello there, I'm writting (or trying to) a Console Application in C#. I has to be console. I remember back in the old days of Cobol (Unisys), Clipper and even Basic, I used to use a program (its name i cannot recall now...) where I designed the "screen" using this "program" and then saved it into an ASCII file. (thus, using 'extended' ASCII's like Lines, Corners, etc. and making screens look nicer and more professional). Then reading a...

Hi, I am just trying to port an existing simple encryption routine to C#. this routine simply adds/substracts 10 ascii characters to each character in a text file (except quotes). The routine for decrypting the file works fine however when I encrypt the file, several characters are corrupted. when I looked into it they are always extended ascii characters (eg "x" which is ascii character 120 gets translated to ascii character 130 which...

Yes, eval is a tool of the devil and I'll burn for using it. However, in this instance it's quite handy and I'm quite lazy. So, here's a weird one, and I'm wondering if anyone has a workaround. I am pulling data off a server via AJAX, and some of that data has non-English characters in it. The data is in the form of a json: {"exitCode":1,"className":"clientRecords" ,"strAccountId":"100" ,"strName":"Dr. Gary A. Martin"

I have the following code section that I thought would strip out all the non-ascii characters from a string after decoding it. Unfortunately the non-ascii characters are still in the string. What am I doing wrong? Dim plainText As String plainText = "tâ•e" Dim plainTextBytes() As Byte Dim enc As Encoding = Encoding.ASCII plainTextBytes = enc.GetBytes(plainText)

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
