Hello,

we have a website that uses ASP.net which connects to Oracle. the database
string is store in the web.config file. it would appear everytime the
iis5recycle.exe programs runs ; our code completely stops and every page
that connects to Oracle errors with :
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" . before this
iis5recycle runs everything is fine and the code has been working. what do
people think could cause this problem.
we have tried replicating this error on our development server and have been
unable to get it to error.

Please help! we are starting to lose face with the client

Cheers

Just to check,

Are you sure the databases are exactly the same? and do you have the correct
connection string for your live server?

Following the problem: Session data for ASP.NET Web applications appears to be lost at random intervals for the InProc session state mode. We can not freely debug an application or install any 3rd party software on server due its procution nature. The causes of this ARE NOT as following: 1) Various attributes (for example, the memoryLimit attribute) have particular settings in the <processModel> section of the configuration file. 2)...

Guys, I have a three frame frameset: a title bar at top, a menu bar on the left, and a "main" frame where the business logic happens. On one page, I need to offer an "Export to Excel" button. When I click this button the download happens, but then the menu bar appears to freeze. What happens is that the page selected is created and sent, but the page offering "Export to Excel" is just redisplayed, so nothing appears to happen. The...

For some reason, when I click the X to close my MDI parent form, the action appears to be re-directed to one of the MDI child forms, and the parent remains open. I am then unable to close the application. What should happen, is that the main MDI form should close, taking the child forms with it. There is code to loop through the child forms, remove the controls on each of them, and then close the form, but this code should execute only...

I posted this problem a couple of days ago but felt I might have better luck re-stating the problem. Apparently I messed up IIS (v. 5) somehow because I am suddenly unable to load web forms! A simple example will help. I created a simple web project that contains two simple forms ... WebForm1 and WebForm2. WebForm1 has a button which when clicked simply does a Response.Redirect("WebForm2.aspx"). When I run the program and click the...

I'm having problems trying to publish an ASP.NET project from VS2005 and was hoping to get some pointers in the right direction. The project works fine from my development system using the internal server (Cassini). Then I use Build/Publish Web Site to publish the app to another server. I specify a URL to where I want it published (http://someserver/MyAppDir). At the time I first publish, the virtual directory MyAppDir does not exist

I wonder if anyone can help ... Today I tried to create another non-clustered index on a table. This failed as I apparently already had 249 non-clustered indexex on the table. Looking at the definition of the table there were 90 or so indexes already defined and not 249. (For those of you who quite rightly think 90 indexes on a table is a little over the top, I hasten to add that this is a third party CRM system called "Siebel" which...

I have had a problem for some time with several databases and figure there must be a common underlying cause. Sometimes when I open a database, nothing appears to happen, but an .ldb file gets created and Access is running in Task Manager. No sign of Access on the screen or Taskbar though. Today, I've partly figured out what is happening. Sometimes when in design mode, I'll be opening and closing forms and after I close the last...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
