Book On How To Build Your Own Merge Module

Hi,
I'd like to locate a book on how to build a merge module. I am deploying
2.71 MDAC. I tried a Merge Module from MS, but it keeps installing an older
version of MDAC. I tried following the directions on how to upgrade the
MDAC.msm given on their web site http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=320788
and decided that if I don't have a book, this will never ever work. It would
be even greater if MS offered an MDAC.msm for 2.71 or 2.8, but months of
searching have not produced results.

Hi I have a question regarding the functionality of merge modules. Since this relates to my previous queries, I'll just give you a brief background on the topic. I had to make an installer for an application which was to share dlls with another application and these dlls were not self-registering. Someone on the forum suggested a few methods for the Visual studio installer, but since I had been using another software, a certain...

We currently are developing an enterprise framework and I am trying to create a set up project for this. Currently I have a merge module that has all of our assemblies set to go into the GAC, and a test set up application with a text file in it and the merge module. Some of the assemblies have references to other assemblies in the framework, so under dependencies I've right clicked and chose exclude. When I run the set up application...

Hi, I have MS Visual Studio 2008 both Pro and Dev Team Edition SP1 installed. I've compiled a managed C++ .DLL which automatically had a manifest embedded, with the following dependency: "Microsoft.VC90.CRT" "9.0.21022.8" "x86". I created an MSI package with the following merge modules: "Program Files\Common Files\Merge Modules\Microsoft_VC90_CRT_x86.msm" and "policy_9_0_Microsoft_VC90_CRT_x86.msm".

I am currently working with a Merge Module and Installation project. I would love to know how to specify where the module should be installed to. By default it is being installed into "C:\Program Files\Default Company Name\" which is not what I want. I'm not sure how to set this to what I want it to be. I have noticed that there is an Author property (under the KeyOutputs property) on the Merge Module once it's included the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
