Hi All,
Is there any way to use a common login page across multiple web
applications?
I have tried couple of things that were suggested on MSDN but they did
not work. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...plications.asp
This technique falters when the second web application is looking for a
session variable and does not find it. The cookie part works fine.
Just wanted to know if anybody had done this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi All,
I thought I would share my solution to this issue.
At the suggestion of a friend I did the following:
Changed by web.config settings to the same as the once specified in the
link in my previous post.
Also, I changed the login functionality to store the userid in the
cookie.
I created a Base page, in the page load of the base page, I check for
session variables and if they are not there, I retrieve the cookie and
the userkey from it. I use the userkey to load the session variable
values from the DB.
I inherited the base page in all of my main pages and you need to the
following line in the page_load function of each page
base.Page_Load( sender,e);
Hope it helps somebody.
Thanks

I am posting this for the lack of a better newsgroup, and for the
knowledge of people here, and because its only partially OT.
We have a bunch of users with their computers at work. There are
reports that the users need, which could be in html, php, asp, jsp,
whatever.
Now I am trying to eliminate the login window entirely. In an html
request, the client (firefox, ie, etc) sends the clients hostname, IP,
a bunch of other stuff, but...

Hi
Any ideas on this... having moved the web app to another server, and setup
all the WebApp data (disable anonymous access etc), locally my site still
asks me for a Username/Password, even though I've got
authentication="Windows" in web.config.
On another machine on the network, I don't get the Login box, but I just get
a 401.2 error (you are not authorised to view this page).

An ASP.NET session cookie set on "www.mydomain.com" can not be accessed on
"search.mydomain.com"; hence, a new session and cookie are being created on
every sub-domain.
This is occuring because ASP.NET always sets the Session cookie domain to
the full domain (e.g. "www.mydomain.com") instead of the parent domain (e.g.
"mydomain.com")
The problem with this is when the visitor goes to a different sub-domain
(e.g. "search.mydomain.com"),...

Hello,
Sorry this is a bit wordy, but it's a pretty simple question...
I have a web site, http://domain/ which is a public site, part of which
(http://domain/a/) is protected by forms authentication.
I would like to configure it so that anyone not logged in, trying to
access the protected part will not be redirected to the login page, but

I've added a punlic domain security login page to one of my web
applications. I did this because the number of users has increased to a
couple of dozen, and having them all added as users on my machine was
becoming cumbersome. I find this method a lot easier to manage the users.
Previously I used windows authentication.
Is this the method most people use ?
Whats the est method ?

We have an asp.net web application that uses Forms Authentication. We need
to launch a second application from links in this app. We don't want the
user to have to also login to this second app. Is there a way to let the
second app know that we are authenticated on the first app. I thought about
just using the http_referrer and saying the second app can not launch
anywhere except from the links on the first app but its too easily spoofed....

Hi all,
We have a site called http://www.mydomainxyz.com/ and our network guy
has set up load balancing with multiple IIS servers. We also have a
function that allows users to upload photos on our website. Recently
we found that doing load balancing will cause the upload function not
workable sometimes and we came up with a plan by creating a specific
domain (let's say http://upload.mydomainxyz.com/) and linking it to
our primary web...

I run a Joomla website and am familiar with php in some but not all
aspects. Currently I am trying to find some solutions related to
session handling.
Am I correct in saying that "login" is kept in sessions? I can see
active sessions in my mysql database, but is that the only place this
information is stored? Sessions and cookies I know are related also,
but how specifically (session info stored in cookies?)?
Right now, when users...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
