Using reflection with ASP.NET

I have a simple VS.NET solution with Project "A" as a web app and Project
"B" as a class library.

"B" does some HTML rendering, and uses reflection to locate and load the
necessary rendering classes.

The behavior I'm trying to create is that;

A gives a rendering instruction to B
B uses reflection to locate the specified Renderer
first it looks locally (in B's assembly)
if it cannot locate a match, it looks in A's assembly

The design approach seems simple enough; B (the general library) has some
built-in rendering function but A (a specific app) may need to supply its
own special capabilities.

However I've hit a problem in the implementation; from B,

Assembly.GetExe cutingAssembly () returns B's assembly
Assembly.GetCal lingAssembly () also returns B's assembly
Assembly.GetEnt ryAssembly () returns null

This seems inconsistent with the reflection behavior I see in WinForms;
since A originally loaded B, I would have thought at a minimum that A would
be identified as the Entry Assembly, if not the Calling Assembly as well.

Is a different approach required in ASP.NET?

Many thanks for a pointer in the right direction;

Hi All, I've been working on building a .dll in C# (framework 1.1) and using it in VFP8. As always, the example that runs so smoothly in the article fails at a rather basic point in practice. When attempting to create the object, After building a dll, I used RegAsm.exe to register and received "Types registered successfully" message. But upon trying to create the object in VFP, I get the error:

I have seen several people looking for a way to access the Columns collection when using the AutoGenerate = true option. Some people have gotten so far as to find the private autoGenColumnsArray that has the information, but we as developers have no way to access this information. I have come up with a solution for the problem, (as I am sure many others have) using reflection. Here is some sample code that will print out the auto...

Am I out of my mind if I use Reflection everytime someone logs into our site to get and track the current Major/Minor/Build/Revision version that the person is viewing our site through? This information would then be logged to a database along with some other information about the user. Thanks in advance. Mark

Hello! Whilst refactoring an application, I was looking at optimizing a ModelFactory with generics. Unfortunately, the business objects created by the ModelFactory doesn't provide public constructors (because we do not allow developers to instantiate them directly). Because our business objects are instantiated very frequently, the idea of using reflection sounds like a performance killer (I haven't done any tests on this, but the...

(This question has been asked previously in this group, but I don't think it was ever really properly answered.) I want to use reflection - preferably - to find all Web Forms in my web site that inherit my base page class (which in turn inherits System.Web.UI.Page). Behold the following code: For Each asm As System.Reflection.Assembly In System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.GetAssemblies() For Each mdl As System.Reflection.Module In...

I am using Reflection to invoke methods dynamically. I have got a special requirement where I need to pass a value to method by setting the custom method attribute. As I cannot change the signature of method to pass a new parameter, I am setting the custom attribute of a given method and then accessing the attribute from method. Since attribute value is decided at runtime I want to change the attribute of particular method at runtime....

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
