Security, Payment gateway and other B2C related

Hi,

I'm currently developing my B2C application using ASP.NET. I have several
questions regarding planning this application:

In my application, I'll use my own shopping cart (developed totally in
ASP.NET / MS SQL Server for the backend).
I'm planning to accepting online payment using major credit cards
(Visa/Mastercard), and for that matter I'm currently considering to use
service from ikobo.com.
Even though this payment gateway suggesting to use their shopping cart, I'll
still use my own shopping cart. And, let this gateway to only handle the
payment verification and processing.
They're also providing ways to connect to their system variables (via form
vars) and let me just pass the total amount of the items in the cart that is
being paid along with the customer personal and CC info when the customer
click on the 'check out' button.

Well, I'm new to this so pls apologize my rather silly questions. Here're my
questions,
- Is it mandatory to use SSL to secure the confidential information
(customer's personal and CC info) during the transfer from my site to the
payment gateway secured link?
- Is there any special considerations (in regard of ASP.NET programming) in
accessing this secured folder?
- Should I use a shared SSL certificate that is shared across all the
domains that are hosted on the hosting that I use, or is it better to use a
dedicated SSL cert for my domain only?
- I'm using Windows XP Pro as my development machine. Is there any way I can
simulate this secured communications via SSL in my machine? I tried it
before but it requested to get a live cert.
- Anyone here ever heard of ikobo.com's reputation?

I'll appreciate any comments and suggestions.

Many thanks in advance,
andy

Hi, Just wondering if any of you has thought about or is working on a payment gateway abstraction layer (PEAR-style)? I'm interested on developing that or at least start a discussion about it. The package would provide a framework for all types of online (and offline?) payment transactions.

Hi all, What would be the best way to add a credit card (and maybe also other systems) payment option to my php website shop? Is this something that can be done by a regular developer like me? And if so where can i find information on how to do this. Or is it customary/best to let a specialised company handle the actual payment part of the transaction. And if so what can i expect to pay to

Hi, My security team thinks allowing communication between the two IIS instances leads to severe security risks. Basically, we want to put our presentation tier on the perimeter network and the business tier inside the fire wall or internal network. The biz tier will be developed and deployed as web services on IIS. I know microsoft recommends this architecture but I am not able to convince my security team. They say IIS is vulnerable...

I have never done anything involving handling credit card payment online. I searched this forum a little bit, and found a few related questions. But, I am still not clear how the solutions they talked about work. I do NOT want my users to go to another domain (either through a popup window or not) to make the payment and redirected back to my web site, because this does not sound professional. In other words, I would like to handle...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
