User Controls and access to members on the calling page.

Hi there,

I have an ASP.NET page that includes the following items.

public string s1;
public string s2;
public string s3;

and a User control called TestForm with three text boxes and one
button.

What I want to happen is this.

1) The user sees the simple form, and completes the textboxes.
2) User presses the button
3) Codebehind from TestForm sets the values of s1, s2 and s3 to the
values in the textboxes.
4) TestForm gets visibility set to hidden.

(There *is* a rason I am doing it this way, even though I know there
are better ways of form handling)

Can it be done? If I try

s1 = TextBox1.Text;

it fails (obvously), because s1 doesn't exist within the user class.
Where in the hierarchy can I set the strings, if I can do it within
the User Control at all?

TIA

I'm trying to set up a user control and change some values from the aspx page, but I keep running into trouble. What I really would like to do is be able to set a Label.Text in the user control from an aspx page. If I open up a static method to set the Label in the code-behind of the user control(uc), then the code in the uc doesn't recognize that the label exists (only if the method is a static (shared) method). If I set up a private...

Hi there, I am busy writing a new asp.net application and I am reusing some of my existing asp functions and methods in a user control. I need access to session, request and response in some of the functions and I can't find out how to do it. Here is an example of what I do and I get the following Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the...

This might be a dumb question, but what is the best way for one instance of a user control to access properties of an instance of another user control? For example, let's say I have an instance of UserControlA (ucA1) and an instance of UserControlB (ucB1) on a particular ASP.NET page. UserControlA has a string property called StringA that gets generated from a DB call in it's Page_Load event. I want UserControlB to be able to access...

Resending this as own topic as didnt get answer from original. Would be grateful for a response from anyone that knows. Thanks. Hi there, I found your post really helpful..but i wondered if, once I have exposed a public property containing the value of a textbox in a user control..how do I grab this from the calling page? I cant think of the syntax, since my page doesnt know the contents of the class (and therefore, the public...

I am messing around with Web User Controls at present and (think) I have discovered the following. 1.) The identifier for the control in the code behind must match the ID for the control on the page. 2.) The identifier must be delcared with a minimum access of 'Protected' in order to work. If the above is indeed correct, then I have made the following assumptions

I have an odd business requirement and I think that the implementation is not correct in the terms of OOP development. Any help on the concepts would be very appreciated! We currently have a custom Page object which is derived from the base Page object. We also have custom controls that derive from a base class that performs custom drawing and inherits from our own IOurControl interface. There is also a special caching layer in the mix...

I'll describe the simplest situation of the problem. I have a simple Web User Control which only contains a: <div id="bla" runat="server" /. I dynamically add it to a page, by performing: SomeCtl ctl = new SomeCtl(); this.Controls.Add(ctl); and of course apply a <% @ Register %tag in order to make SomeCtl known to

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
