Deployment of locally developed ASP.NET application on a remote server

Hello all!

What would be the most convenient way to deploy a locally developed ASP.NET
application on a remote server that has .NET Framework (correct version)
installed but I don't have any control over it?

I tried simply copying files, then I created a Web Setup project locally and
built it. I have then installed the application locally from the EXE and MSI
files and then transferred the newly created files to a remote server by
using FTP. Anyhow, I keep receiving an error when try to see the application
on the remote server.

Now, I know that a virtual directory in which the application resides should
be configured as an application in IIS and that my uploaded application
should start to work if the administrator of the remote server do so. But is
there a way to circumvent this and simply depend solely on my actions?

Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Hrvoje

I have a VB6 SP6 MDAC 2.8 application talking to SQL Server. Once I've installed this application on my local machine I have been able to move the ..exe file to a file server and it runs just fine from there for all my local users. This is very handy for updating the application without having to reinstall it on each user's machine each time. They just use a shortcut pointing to the file server .exe file My problem has become that we...

First time user of .NET. I've created a simple Email application. Created the Install project and made the setup files. I've tested on two computers and it works fine when I install to the local hard drive. Problem occurs when I install to a folder on another server or PC workstation (Win2000 servers; all PC's XP Pro). When I dbl-click the app locally it runs just fine. When I do the samething to a remote folder with the same files I get...

I found out that only using winform I can use the winword interop and generate word document in the client machine and connect to a remote database, so that I have made a winform application which accesses winword on the client and a remote db. Afterwards I wanted to use the no touch deployment but the winform cannot anymore start winword on the client, and I get a security exception. Does that mean that I cannot use no touch deployment...

Hi, I have created an application that uses IIS to host remote components. All the remote components are listed in app.config in client and web.config in server. Now the app.config can contain either localhost name/IP address to point to remote component like <wellknown type="XYZ, XYZ" url="http://localhost:80/XYZ" />. Remoting configuration is done using RemotingConfiguration.Configure("XYZ.exe.config") in application's main method....

This is such a "dead in the water" problem I don't even know if this is the right forum for it. I have developed an ASP.NET/C# project on my own PC and it's working. I then transferred it to the remote serverwhere it will finally reside. I'm not a server expert, but the administrator says that ASP.NET is enabled. However, when I access any of the pages I just get a generic "Server Error in '/' Application. Runtime Error" page that tells me...

I am trying to deploy an application to a test server on my company's intranet. This application runs just fine locally, and I used the 'Copy Project' option in VS 2003. I set the destination project folder to http://ncgc-webdb/NEWGDLocator2/ and selected the File Share Web Access Method. When I access the application at http://ncgc-webdb/NEWGDLocator2/WebForm1.aspx I get this error: Server Error in '/NEWGDLocator2' Application....

Here's a problem I haven't run into before. I'm testing my site on a remote server. This morning, I changed an error message in an email, tested it locally, then used 'Copy Web Site...' to copy the change to the remote server. When I tested for the error on the remote server, I got the old error message, not the new one. I assumed the old code was being cached by the server, so I made a change to Web.config on the remote server to force...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
