Keeping a Session alive during long downloads

Hi,

in my ASP.NET app, I use a default Session Timeout of 20 minutes.
Everything works fine and Sessions are abandoned after 20 minutes.
This is exactly the behaviour I expect: After 20 minutes of inactivity
the Session becomes abandoned. But if a user starts a large downloads
which takes far over 20 minutes, the session becomes invalidated
during the download. So the next request after the download results in
an invalid Session error. I'm aware that downloading a file is one
single request and thus the Session times out regularly. But is there
a way to manually reset the Session timeout during the download
causing the session not to invalidate?
Thanks in advance.

Tell me if my assertion is wrong here: The only way to prevent session hijacking is to NEVER store authentication information (such as name/password) in the session. Well, to never authenticate a user from information you got from the session. Each secure app on a site must challenge the user for name and password, each and every time the user accesses it (not just once and then store it in the session). If a secure app is multi-page,...

Let's say I have a Session timeout of 20 minutes. If the browser periodically request a graphic file, will that keep its Session alive? What keeps the Session alive? Is it the Session cookie that is sent in the HTTP header from the browser? If that is so, will requesting a graphic file send the cookie? Thanks.

I'm working on a proof of concept that will ultimately be deployed on a load balancer. For the sake of a preliminary demonstration I created a C# object and marked it's attributes as Public Shared Static. I also set the EnableSessions and EnableViewState Page directives to false. Here's the part that stumped me : as I was moving from page to page within the demo, I accidently realized the data I dropped

I'm working on some code that gathers data from a web interface to one of our servers (classic ASP). The problem is that the site uses session variables to store login information, so to move from page to page I need to emulate a browser keeping a session active. I'm currently using the .Net code below to access each web page. If I get back an ASPSESSIONID cookie, I store it in a Cookie object, and keep passing that object back every...

Hello all, Here is my question. I have an AxWebBrowser (hereafter refered to as "Browser") control framed in a smart client. The smart client requires logon, and the web app that the Browser is pointing to requires logon and is using Forms Authentication. I have set up a web service so that when the user logs on to the smart client, s/he can also log on to the website (basically, the username/password is passed up, auth ticket set...

Dear ASP community, I have a question regarding ASP session variables. My assumption was that a session variable has the same lifetime as the session itself: as a consequence, given that closing the browser doesn't terminate the session, the session variable is kept alive until the session expires. But, surprisingly, I've found this to be true for the session variables

Hi Folks. I have an issue I need some help with if thats OK. I am running Framework 2.0 using Windows Integrated Security. For most of the application we manage session timeouts without the user knowing anything about it by ensuring all the essential objects ( only a few ) are in place during session start. For performance, there are some parts of the application which use static

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
