ASPX file returning obscur runtime error - after changing permissions to a subweb (.net app) to different permissions than on its parent ?

Hi

I have posted this in the microsoft.publi c.frontpage newsgroups.
Since it involves both Frontpage ext. 2002 on a windows 2000 Advanced's
web server, and ASP.Net (framework 1.0), I decided to post here too.
So here is the post I sent on the other newsgroups, please read and tell
me if you have seen this.

Note: By the way, here the developers don't have the choice, they have
to use FP to deploy.

---
I've read in previous posts here and there that a lot of the weirdest
errors given by FP after publishing a site might be the results of
something else not configured properly in NTFS (permissions?). I
suspect this is the case but I don't know for sure. Maybe if somebody
here has seen that he/she can help me to be on the right track to
investigate that problem.

Here it is:
The developpers here have to use Frontpage to deploy their .Net
applications on a specific windows 2000 web server. The weird error
here is happening is when the Frontpage administrator wants to change
permissions, using FP admin web pages, on a subweb and he chooses the
option to not apply the same permissions as on the parent web, that
subweb doesn't work immediately after the permissions are changed.

We get a runtime error on a plan ASPX login page that had just a few
labels and a textfield. If I look in the IIS's log, I can see a 500
error right when we try to run that one login page after the
permissions were changed.

Even if the FP administrator changes back the permissions to what they
were and goes in to select "same permissions as parent web", it won't
work anymore.
We have to remove the subweb entirely and re-create it again to make
sure it works.

Any ideas? Hints?

Thanks in advance!

Isabelle

I used 'save as' on my aspx.cs file, which broke the link between it and it's aspx file. Restoring everyting to it's previous state and checking the 'codebehind' properties of the aspx file have not fixed it. changing the namespace names also did not help - is this a known bug? Everything should be ok but it's not - any suggestions? Dan

Hello My aspx pages run fine with non-secure server. When I tried to run them with https://, on the browser side, the runtime error occurred with suggestions of adding the following configuration <configuration><system.web><customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/></sytem.web></configuration and on the server side, the errors were access denied to "C:\WebFiles\web.config". Failed to start monitoring file...

Hi I am using MS Access to store the data in an .mdb file. And I observe that, if the .mdb is open, I receive a runtime error whenever I/someone tries to access any of the .aspx pages that needs to access this .mdb. My .aspx pages are using OleDb for the data retrieval. I do not want those runtime errors. Please enlighten me as to how to get rid of those runtime errors. Thanks a ton in advance...

Hi there I have a Windows Forms application that contacts the server and retrieves particular files, if they exist. To the best of my knowledge, the .exe assembly is properly compiled, strongly named, etc. Specifically, within Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Configuration>Assembly Cache, I have added myApp.exe to the global assembly cache. Also, within >Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Wizards>Trust an...

Probably a simple one, but I've found nothing in groups or google so here goes; trying to deploy a simple .net asp app to our web server, which has been hardended as it's public facing. It's only ever run classic asp apps before. I've tried to upload a basic app with nothing but an empty web form, and I get the default "Runtime error, The custom error settings prevent you blah" I've tried setting customErrors but I get the same page,...

Hi there, created a folder on my webserver and dropped some aspx files in them. No problem, they do exactly what I want when I look at them in my browser. Then I added full control for a local user I created (let's call him CLIENTUSER) to this folder and the files below. This user is member of the local group USERS (as per default). So far, so good.

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
