login errors editing remote pages

Hi
I'm trying to edit pages from inside Visual Studio 2002 on a remote server
Windows 2000 using FrontPage extensions. Its been working fine for quite a
few weeks but since a problem with the power supplier to the machine which
caused it crash I've been getting a strange problem.

I can be editing pages and saving them back to the server without a problem
when for no apparent reason I get the following login prompt:
"This operation requires author permission for <servername>:80 "

I enter the correct username and password and I get the following error
message:
"The user name or password is incorrect, or you do not have authorization to
perform this operation"

I'm in the correct group to edit the files and the ACL on the file says I
have permission to read and write to he file.

In the security event log I find the following entry which corresponds to me
saving the file:

Event Type: Failure Audit
Event Source: Security
Event Category: Logon/Logoff
Event ID: 537
Date: 04/08/2004
Time: 14:20:00
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTE M
Computer: <SERVER>
Description:
Logon Failure:
Reason: An unexpected error occurred during logon
User Name:
Domain:
Logon Type: 3
Logon Process:
Authentication Package: NTLM
Workstation Name:
Does anyone have any ideas what is happening? I've tried re-installing the
FrontPage extensions, deleting and re-adding the webserver, nothing seems to
work.

If it matters I go through a proxy server at our ISP that I can't bypass, to
rule the proxy out I'm going to try getting a site set up on another port
that isn't proxied. But as I said earlier it had been working for a while
with this proxy server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Karl.

When I try and sign in though and then try and access the restricted pages it takes me back to the login page. The local root folder for the site is:

Hi, I have tried to keep things simple. Not simple enough, obviously. I have a set of intranet ASP.NET pages which access a SQL back-end through the normal SQLConnection stuff. I want to use peoples' NT logons to user-stamp data changes made through the web-pages. So it seemed obvious to use Windows authentication to access SQL connections.

Hi. I've deployed a web application on a desktop computer running W2K and IIS. I'm using the desktop as a server. When I try to access the site, either from my development computer or if I log in to a remote machine, the site works fine for me and I'm able to access the aspx pages with no problems. When others try to access the site, it asks them for there login ID, password and domain.

Hi, - I'm running .NET framework 1.1 on win2k server I'm investigating error pages at the moment. I have found how to: a) display friendly or real .NET errors in the remote browser, by editing the "customErrors" section of the machine.config (or web.config) and setting the value to "On", "Off" or "RemoteOnly".

Hello I am working locally with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express. Before I even installed it, the information from Microsoft was that you could FTP it to a remote site and it should work. The site I FTP'd to has .Net Framework 2.0 installed. I got this error when I tried to open the site: Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details...

The following code (web.config in Visual Studio 2005) is supposed to redirect a user to the appropriate Form depending on their role. However, regardless of the user's role, the only page displayed is the login page with the URL of the page the user was supposed to go to being displayed in the address bar. A valid user is: name "sandy" password = san_mcd role = Administrator ...

Login SEEMS to work (and login event is recorded sucessfuly in DB (MSSQL on shared server)) but asp pages behave as if a user isnt logged in ie not showing user name/ logged in views etc. As behavior is different on this shared server to my local development environment (VS 2008/ Web Publisher) Im not sure how to troubleshoot the problem.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
