Postback uses session state?

Ian
Hi there,

A little confused about postback and sessionstate

Does a postback use a session state by default? if so by default is this
stored in a cookie?

I was a little confused here, I have found out how to use the URL to stored
the session state and how to remove session state completely.

If session state is removed completely then what happens when a postback is
done, are all variables forgotten?????

Any ideas??

Ian

Hi I've almost finished the web page I'm developing (with a great deal of help from this group - thanks everyone). My page contains 3 drop down boxes, a SEARCH button, a datagrid (populated using a stored procedure, the stored procedure uses the selectitem in the drop down boxes for the parameters), and a SUBMIT button. I'm not sure how to bring it all together, when the page starts I only want

I did a ton of searching to try and find a simple solution to this issue and finally wrote my own, which I am sharing with everyone. In my searching, I did find a very complete and robust solution at http://weblogs.asp.net/asmith/archive/2003/09/15/27684.aspx but it was far more complex then I needed. (I got lost trying to figure it all out). Therefore, here goes my simple "web dialog box with parent event handler fireing" solution. ...

I have a web app that gets a recordset from the database and fills a grid. You can drilldown from this table to a detail table. Because the tables sometimes get huge, and because I have to go back to the database again every time I postback anyway, I wanted to disable ViewState in the grids. Just to minimize the amount of stuff that gets downloaded to the client. The problem is that none of the postbacks work. They postback, but...

I have an ASP.Net 1.1 application using datagrid. I am trying to handle conditions where the users post back an updated datagrid after the session times out. The results are not pretty. Sometimes IE will report an invalid ViewState and sometimes my application will generate a typical exception because the object reference has become null. How does the experts and the rugged WEB applications handle or detect when the data received from the...

Hi, I've got a problem with losing session state in ASP.NET version 2. It does it intermittently - sometimes it tanks - and sometimes it works OK. I've got the ASP.NET state service started - the separate process for state management: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- StateServer mode stores session state in a process, referred to as the ASP.NET state service, that is separate...

I have an application in which I store state in the Session object. There are two paths of execution in the Page_Load method of the default page. In one path the Session state is preserved across postback and it works fine. In the other path the Session state is lost and I get a new Session object after the postback. The page has a grid on it and I am using a List<Tas a datasource for the grid that is stored in the Session state and is...

Hi, In my asp.net 1.1 web application there is a page with a url something like userinfo.aspx?userid=107 which has some postback buttons on it. In the GET method (i.e. IsPostBack = false) it fetches some information about that user and stored it in the session, then in the postback it uses that information from the session. However, if the user has the IE browser cache setting at the default

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
