Hi everyone,
I've been using ASP on a few different projects over the past year, either
using Javascript or VBScript. During that time, I've made use of session
variables, but even then, I've tried to keep those variables to a minimum
(which is not always easy).
I've also read on many ASP resource sites (such as fuzzysoftware.com, etc)
that the use of session variables can be a no-no, while others say that it's
perfectly valid to use...

We have sort of a centralized single-signon written in ASP.NET for all of
our legacy ASP and ASP.NET apps.. There are around 1200 users and something
like 2 dozen apps. Everyonce in a while, a user gets the error that their
session is a duplicate in the database.. I talked to the database guys about
putting in a job that cleans up old sessions, but I also want to have this
work a little cleaner on the front-end.
I need to generate a...

I have an app (A) that has a link to another (B) app that it spawns in a new
window. The new window has a link back to app A, opening a third window
(let's call it A2). The problem is, I need A2 to act like the same user
logged into a clean browser window to app A such that it has a new Session
rather than sharing the same one among the 3 windows. Customer requirement
that it works that way, so I have no other choice but to come up with...

It appears that the session Id is not unique when the application is
updated.
Here is how I encounter that.
User logged in around 7 AM. Application recorded that Session Id as s1.
I updated the web application around 7.30 AM.

Are IIS session ID's guaranteed to be unique forever, like GUID's. Ie, would
it be safe to assume that a session ID is not ever going to be used again or
recycled? I want to track user activity on a web-site by storing the session
id and activity in a Sql Server database. Oviously if a session Id is used
more than once over a given time period, then the reporting is going to be
inaccurate.

Hi all,
I've read some stuff on this but can't seem to come up with a solution
that works right. I have a semi-mature (yet very large and robust)
internal web application that currently only works with one window open
at a time.
Maybe I'm abusing the use of $_SESSION but I have data entry processes
split up in several steps (which is required since depending on what
was put before determines what pages will be shown after). To store...

Some ASP.NET applications use Session Variables extensively to maintain
state.
These should be re-written to use viewstate, hidden fields, querystring,
etc. instead.
This is because if a user opens a new IE window with Ctrl-N or
File-New-Window, BOTH WINDOWS SHARE THE SAME SESSION VARIABLES. This cannot
be prevented.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
