Hi,

Technically yes, one of EventLog constructors "Initialize s a new
instance of the EventLog class. Associates the instance with a log on
the specified computer" (MSDN).

But you should change the default user that runs ASP.NET due to the fact
that he doesn't have rights to access network resources. If you are
going to change ASP.NET user to user with rights. BE VERY careful, you
can cause security flaws!

Hi, I've been using an Access application I wrote for an office with the front-end stored on all computers and the back-end on one of them serving as an Access file server. Now we're moving to a 2nd office 15 minutes down the road. Only one office will be open at a time, so theoretically it'd be possible to copy the back-end manually every night from one office to another, but frankly, that's pretty annoying.

Hi folks. I have an ASP.Net application that runs a .Net dll that uses WMI and ADSI(both managed) to connect to a given IIS root and search through it. When not using the ASP.Net client, but running from a winforms project - I can connect to both local and remote machines. However, when using the ASP.Net project - I get an "Access denied" exception. This happens when calling the ManagementScope.Connect() method.

I need to access some data on a server. I can access it directly using UNC (i.e. \\ComputerName\ShareName\Path\FileName) or using a mapped network drive resource (S:\Path\FileName). Here is my problem: my vb.net program has problems with UNC. If the UNC server is restarted or goes off-line, my VB.net program crashes. The code for UNC access to the file is included below and is put in the tick event of a form timer control running every...

Hello All, I am developing an application in visual basic 2005 that will run continuously in the background on a users workstation. This application will automatically transfer files from the local machine to a remote server and vise versa. It checks for the files on a timed interval. Hi NG! I have a problem in my remote application. After calling a remote function the calculation will be done by the service. The calculation result will be sent to the caller (client) via remote event. The following behavior can be observed: 1.) Right after the start of the server the first response via remote event will take a long time.

Hi All, I'm having trouble deploying a Windows Service installer (.NET 1.1) onto some machines. It gets half way through the installer and gives me a dialog box saying "Access Is Denied". When I click OK it does a rollback on the install. The exact same installer has worked on both XP and Windows Server 2003 machines. It seems to have a problem on Small Business Server standard. I am logged on as Administrator with Administrator...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
