Best thing to do-Need Advise--Please

Jay

Hello there,

I am trying to set up a test website that includes a header, footer, left and right navigator, and a central section. Since I am new to ASP and ASP.NET I was wondering what is the best thing to do. I have read that it is possible to use controls (Web Forms controls shown in Toolbox?) and custom controls.

Since the left and right navigators have to include dynamic information from a DB, do I need custom controls here? My idea is to use dynamically loaded Web Form controls. I was thinking about creating custom controls only for the various versions of the central section. I have a central section (body?) for each of the left navigator options. If the user selects option #1, then I would load user control #1, etc., etc.

Is the above the correct design? Thank you.

Jay

I need to have a string available per page, i.e. the SQL Connection String. What's the best way of doing this? Right now I have it loaded into a session variable, but I think I should do something with global.asax?? Greetings! I am still trying to determine the best way to implement a Web site that contains many documents that visitors can read. Most of the suggestions I've been given indicate that I should store the documents in a database but then cache them to pages. Unfortunately, while an experienced programmer, I've very new to ASP.NET and the very brief descriptions I've been given how to do this, I just don't understand.

Hello, Looking for opinions on a fairly simple task, new to ASP.net (C#) and want to make sure I do this as efficiently as possible. I have a web based form, and I need to run some SQL before submit, which determines exactly where to send the form contents. The table of "receipients" could contain in the region of 3,500 recipients but is more likely to contain up to 1,000. Table structure:

What is the most respectable certification? Does it have to be Microsoft certification? How about Visual C++, object oriented programming certifications? thanks

Hi, I know this is potentially off-topic, but because python is the language I'm most comfortable with and I've previously had experiences with plone, I'd as much advice as possible on this. I want to host a site where people can register to become a user. They should be able to maintain their own "showroom", where they can show blog entries (maybe just by linking to their own blogs on some other blog/album-hosting site like Xanga), put...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
