how to DataBinder.Eval with an XmlBoundElement ?

I have a datagrid with my datasource set to an XmlNodeList.
I am trying to define TemplateColumns and my ItemTemplate says something
like:

<%# DataBinder.Eval (Container.Data Item, "subject") %>

In this case, the page reports that Container.DataI tem is an instance of
XmlBoundElement which seems to be an undocumented class although I found
that it extends XmlElement which is documented. In any case, I need to
select a child node of the item but I can't seem to get to it. The OuterXml
for the dataitem might look like this:

<abc>
<abcid>10101</abcid>
<subject>Test Subject</subject>
<email>some email address</email>
</abc>
