Brian,
SetSocketOption only allows me to set Send and receive timeout, not the
connect()
seems like i may have to use Asynchronous connect methods.
but thanks though for your reply

Python2.3.2: Running the following receiver and sender code in separate windows under Win2K does not work properly (missed & very delayed transmissions). Under Redhat Linux 9 (where I will be using it) it works fine (with up to 250 sending threads; I hit the thread limit at 255!) Any idea why do I not get any errors reported under Windows? Dear all, following are some piece of my code (mainly create a socket connection to server and loop to receive data): # function to create and return socket def connect(): server_config = ('192.168.1.50', 3333); sock = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) try: sock.connect()

Does anyone know the scope of the socket.setdefaulttimeout call? Is it a cross-process/system setting or does it stay local in the application in which it is called? I've been testing this and it seems to stay in the application scope, but the paranoid side of me thinks I may be missing something... any confirmation would be helpful.

Hello Fellow Developer, I use the System.Net.Sockets to send/receive data (no tcpclient/tcplistener), I made a receivethread in my wrapper, the receivethread loops/sleeps while waiting for data and then fires a datareceived event. Within the waitingloop there is a timeout function, but I want the the 'last-time-socket-used' variable set when the socket is finished sending. When I send by System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Send(buffer()) (<--this...

How does one put a timeout on an attempt to connect a socket? There's no timeout parameter to Socket.Connect(), and while there are socket options for send and receive timeouts, there is none for connect timeout.

Hi, Running Fedora Core 4: Python 2.4.3 and Python 2.4.1. I'm getting: IOError: (2, 'No such file or directory') all the time. Trying to track down this problem: Python 2.4.1 (#1, May 16 2005, 15:19:29)

Hi, In an attempt to create a full-blown webcrawler I've found myself writing a wrapper around the Socket class in an attempt to make it completely async, supporting timeouts and some scheduling mechanisms. I use a non-blocking approach for this, using the call to 'poll' to support the async mechanism - rather than the 'begin' and 'end' functions. I already found that connecting doesn't set the "isconnected" variable correctly...

Hey, it seems that the socket-module behaves differently on unix / windows when a timeout is set. Here an example: # test.py import socket sock=socket.socket(socket.AF_INET,socket.SOCK_STREAM) print 'trying to connect...'

I've tried 2.3.4, 2.4.4, 2.5.1 and 3.0a4, all on WinXP SP2, and in all cases I got an exception (details differ between versions). In no case I could make the connection succeed when nobody was listening at port 9999, as expected. --

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
