No files visible when 'Opening project from web'

Dan
(This same question has been posted to this newsgroup at least 8 times in
the last two years and was never answered.)

On a w2k server named 'MyServer', an ASP.NET Web Application 'MyWebApp' is
created with VS.NET. It CAN be opened by 'Open project from web' if the
address is: http://localhost/MyWebApp

However, it CANNOT be opened using 'Open Project from Web' if the address is
'http://MyServer/MyWebApp' even though that address in IE brings up the web
site from the server or any other computer on the LAN.

If you issue the 'Open Project from Web' on any computer on the LAN,
including the server, the "Open Project' dialog comes up and shows a list of
the virtual directories, but no project files.

What do I do? I want to be able to host the Web Application on the w2k
server and work on it from a XP home edition laptop on the LAN.

TIA, Dan

I know this seems like a noob question, but... Our group is working on a development server (Win2K Server, IIS 5.0) in which we are all Administors. On this server, we set up our projects by first creating the appropriate folder on Under C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\<ProjectName>. Then we create a virtual directory in IIS pointing to that folder. Then we create a new project on our own machines (Win2K) using FrontPage Extensions. For each of...

Hi folks.. I'm having a problem with opening a web project on a remote host. The reason is because the version of the Web project was created in Visual Basic.NET standard 2003. Well, I went out and bought Visual Studio Pro version 2002.. (I know, I'm an idiot!) and I get an error when trying to open the web project stating the obvious .. (That I need to use a newer version).. So I thought I'd try to add the files to a local project and...

Hi, I'm after this setup, and I'm just wondering if this is even feasible. I'd like to store my asp.net project remotely, on a network drive (all the project files, everything), But I want to be able to run the project on my local computer, off my local IIS server/asp.net configuration. Here is what I've done, I've set up an IIS virtual drive that has the alias I want locally, and points to this network drive. I entered in my...

We have an ASP.NET 2.0 web application running on a Windows 2003 domain controller. Part of that application needs to read and write files from and to a network share ( living on a MAC Xserveraid) on the same network segment. I mapped a drive on the server to that share. When mapping the drive, I could enter access credentials for the shares (an account from the Mac side that does not exist in the windows domain). Using Windows Explorer,...

Hi newbie using nAnt for .net 2.0. I would be happy of any help that you may be able to provide. The weird thing is that VS.net builds without a problem. And the intellisense within the object WorkQueue knows that Master is referring to the PanelManager reference. nant file ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
