buttons on a DataGrid Template Column

Is it possible to make a button on a DataGrid template
column, Trigger the DataGrid "Selected Index change" event.

Is it possible to trigger that event not through the
button column ?

Yes,

using either Button, LinkButton and ImageButton (or custom control with
Command event) using "Select" as value for CommandName property. Same goes
for other actions of DataGrid ("Update", "Delete" and so on).
