Is there any documentation on using config files with
multiple assemblies?
For example, I have a class library installed to the
GAC. This is then used in several ASPX pages. If the
class library requests settings from a config file, whose
will it get:
- the app.config that was built with the library (but
doesn't appear to have been installed to the GAC)
- the web.config of the calling application
or
- the machine.config file
???
Thanks,

Erik,
Because class libraries in .NET do not support built-in processing of the
dedicated .config files, the default behavior - as far as getting
application settings is concerned - is to get them from .config files of the
caller applications. It applies to all class libraries, not just the ones in
GAC. For example, if your library code retrieves an application setting, and
it is called from a Web application, the library will get the value from the
application's web.config file. If the same library is called by a Windows
application, the results will come from this application's .config file.

I want to have a config file with my python proggie, satisfying the
following requirements:
1) support key->(value, default)
2) simple and intuitive to read and edit
3) easyly readable into a python datastructure (a dictionary?)
4) not requiring any heavy libraries needed (I am distributing my
proggie as a py2exe executable and do not want to bloat the size)
can you guys suggest some format for this? thanks,
max

I found my web.config file always in lock mode, when I tried to modify it, I
ofter got "Can not create web.config" error. I had to reboot my machine, and
before I accessed any site I can modify it. I think microsoft creates the
..NET structure so that user can modify config file easier without restart
service. I am not sure why my web.config works like that? Could someone
explain this to me? And is there a easier way I can modify the config...

Hi,
I have a Windows Service running (made in VB.NET), and wanted to be able to
change from time to time some parameters by changing them in the App.config.
But it seems that the application doesn't use the changed values in the
App.config, but continue to use the values that were there during start-up.
Is there a way to let the application use the new values in the App.config?
Is there kind of some 'refresh' function that I should...

Hi everyone,
I really need help with the following:
It's common in app development to create numerous projects under one
solution that as a whole combine to become your final application. For
example I have a solution that has four subprojects - 3 class libraries and
1 windows forms app.
Q - Some of these projects - both class library and win form application

I've created a windows forms appliation that gets its data from a sql database.
I want to create an app.config file for this application so that in the
event that the server name changes, they won't have to recompile to connect,
but rather change the setting in the app.config file.
I've seen many examples of this online and have done this a number of times
myself in ASP.net with the web.config file, however, I am having issues
getting...

I'm trying to use ASP objects (basically formed and populated based on
Web.Config settings) and I want to use them in a different non-asp program
with minimal reprogramming. So, my question is how do I mock up what ASP
does to read the Web.Config file? I've tried messing around in the
System.Configuration library and haven't been able to find anything from
taking a quick look at the objects and their methods (for the goal of
populating the...

I am working on a web app that I want to be able to use a separate
config file on, in addition to the web.config file that's already
working in the application.
If I put the following in the web.config file (VS 2005, Framework 2.0),
I can retrieve the values fine:
<appSettings>
<add key="fileInputFolder" value="C:\National City Downloads\test"/>
<add key="fileTransaction" value="\Transactions\"/>

Hi everyone,
I have a small block of code that encrypts a database connection string in a
..config file, but I'm not sure where the encryption key comes from. There is
no problem with this code -- it seems to be working fine -- I am able to
retrieve the connection string with no problem after it's been encrypted.
Let me show you the snippet of code that performs the encryption:
using System.Configuration;

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello
I'm a network technician in training and I need your help.
I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs.
The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols.
I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
