Tell me if my assertion is wrong here:
The only way to prevent session hijacking is to NEVER store
authentication information (such as name/password) in the session.
Well, to never authenticate a user from information you got from the
session. Each secure app on a site must challenge the user for name
and password, each and every time the user accesses it (not just once
and then store it in the session). If a secure app is multi-page,...

Hello All,
I have been working on this for almost a week now and I haven't anything up
my sleeves anymore that I could test in addition or change....
Since I am not sure, if this is a Windows 2003 Server or ADO or ODBC issue,
I am posting this on all of the three newsgroups.
That's the setup:
Windows 2003 Server with IIS and ASP.NET actiavted
Access 2002 mdb file (and yes, proper rights are set on TMP paths and path,

Hi All

Is there any issue in using COM component in web applications. The
problem I'm facing are
1. Though the dll is using non-static member variables which are being
instantiated on each call, Whenever I'm calling the (.aspx) pages using
the dll more than once simultaneously, both results in garbage. When
called once it is perfect in result.
2. The memory is not being released in web application of the dll even
after finishing properly with...

I am a newbie to ASP.NET and webservices. I have a webservice that is
calling a C# dll. This dll then calls methods in a VB COM+ component.
The COM+ component is not instantiating correctly. The return value of
the called function is an ADO recordset. Looking at the value of the
variable in the watch window, it is undeclared. So, the function is not
completing. I ran this code from a straight WinForms application and it
worked fine. ...

When using VB6 COM objects on a ASP.NET page, and having the @Page directive
with the AspCompat attribute set to true, it causes an error like "Method
'~' of object '~' failed" or "Object reference not set to an instance of an
object".
The scenario is:
- Windows 2003 server
- IIS6
- Framework 1.1

I noticed today that when I have an ASP.NET web page with AspCompat="true",
the CCW count tracked by the peformance monitor increases every time the page
is loaded. Clicking refresh causes the count to increment. The count grows
into the hundreds before it drops, but it never drops back to 0.
Can anyone explain what's going on? For what managed object is a CCW being
created? What impact will this have on memory usage?
I'm in the...

I have a C# class GeneralUtilities.cs , which many of my aspx.cs files
will refer to. So, I've put it under the App_Code folder and compiled
it to library using csc /target: library from the DOS console.
I can use objects of type GeneralUtilities in any aspx.cs file in my
web application without any problem if only I make my web application
folder a virtual directory.
If I don't make it a virtual directory, the compiler complains...

I want a simple method or function to check if at least one of the
field in a composite object is null (nothing).
For instance, if Field5 is null I would like that a function such
as
AtLeastOneReferenceNull(Class1.Field3.Property4.Field5.something)
would return TRUE

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
