Question: ActiveX control implementation

I am going to use an ActiveX control on my webform.

1. How can I set it up so that if a user views the web page and doesn't
have the ActiveX control it immediately/automatically downloads it from a
predefined location?

2. How do I handle registering it on their machine (with 'regsvr32'?), or
do I even need to do this? (This ActiveX control is an unmanaged,
non-server control.)

Thanks,
Robert

I need to use Visual Basic to create an ActiveX DLL that subclasses an Access form (cf. Knowledge Base Article 278379). Should I use Visual Studio .NET --or-- regular Visual Basic 6 --or-- VS.NET 6... something else? what's the diff?? is VS.NET only for creating managed code?

I am considering a situation where I have (n) number of form windows, each with an instance of the Microsoft Web Browser Control (IE) on each form. In each web browser control is an HTML page that has a Java applet. This is the only way I am aware of to get a Java applet to paint within a .NET Forms window. Given that scenario I am trying to determine whethere there would be one Java VM loaded for all of the (n) applets inside the (n) MS...

Hello all, in VB6 we were able to create ActiveX-DLL's (In Process Components) and ActiveX-Exe's (Out of Process Components). We habe build up an application that exists of an main module (Standard Exe) that calls and controls other modules (ActiveX-Exe). We decided for ActiveX-Exe because they run in different processes. That means if one module shuts down, the others are still alive. Second reasons

I was wondering if anyone has enough familiarity with the ActiveX scripting implementation of javascript to answer if it would be possible to define a new language for the engine, and for the implementation inheriting from the javascript implementation, adding in capabilities. By capabilities I mean not just the generic use of the word, but more specifically the concept of capability-based security. Hoping someone can give me a good...

The general problem is that I have to start an Application, programmed in C#, out of a c++-programm. To do this, I have made a com callable wrapper around the assembly and startet my application. Until here, everything works fine, I am able to start the new dialog out of the mfc application. But now my problem: The dialog from the assembly doesn´t start, if I use ActiveX components in the C#-assembly. Has anyone an idea why this seems not...

I am asked to make a webpage with an ActiveX control. THe control will show data from database or webservice and based on those data draw a graph (Trend control from www.cstsoft.com). I started to wonder if it was the smartest way to solve this and that leads me to ask out here if it is. Is there maybe better way to show data like a trend graph? The data sometimes is near real time and dynamic in the way that it can draw data while being...

Hi , I am trying to host .Net UserControls in a MFC Application. The MFC Application is an ActiveX DLL. I inserted required managed code inside the MFC application, making it a mixed mode DLL. I am following the KB article for mixed mode DLL's http://support.microsoft.com/?id=814472 I linked the DLL with /noentry option. Also I added and exported the DllEnsureInit and DllForceTerm methods in my DLL which call __crt_dll_initialize()...

Hello! Is it possible to use Visual Studio 2005 or, secondarily, Visual Studio .NET 2003 to create ActiveX controls which may be consumed by VB 6.0 programs, i.e. dealt with on forms in the usual way? If yes, may you provide a hint/link for getting started? Best regards,

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
