And let's not forget about those people who think that multiple independent

some hyphens.

Hey - what's up with top-posters?

Makes it easier to read when you follow the posts in Outlook Express. Or are
you all still using DOS stuff for this? It seems to me that 'netiquestte'
for newsgroup posts is a little out of date when the biggest argument that
can be mustered in a thread is whether or not to top post?

LoL.

Chris.
(only semi-serious about the topic of top posting)

:) I highly recommend this add-on for OE newsreaders. After you install,
you'll see why us bottom-feeders (errr, posters) find it easier to follow a
thread. An added bonus is the cool replacement of smilies with icons ;o) :

I'll be honest and day that I prefer a top-post so that as I click on each
message in the thread I can see what was said (at the top of course). With
bottom-posting I have to scroll down the entire message just to see a one
liner. It's not worth the hassle and so I tend to ignore bottom-posts not
through a conscious effort but by dint of getting sick of having to scroll
about all the time.

However, fixing the stupid 76 character linefeed issue is cool - it's a
throwback to type printers that had to have hard carriage returns in the
text.

Hey Chase,

that's one nifty add-on (can I say nifty here?). I might not of gotten any
answers for my chilisoft questions but this makes it worth it.

Jul 19 '05 #16
I actually have no strong preference, except that I will always intersperse
my reply when responding to different points within the post. Otherwise,
because OE-Quotefix makes it easy, I usually bottom-post my initial replies,
but if the respondant top-posts his reply to my post, I usually comply with
that unless I have to respond to several points within his response.

When bottom-posting, I try to trim all the irrelevant stuff from the
original post so that scrolling is not so much an issue. It's not always
possible.

With top-posting, it's way too easy to forget to trim the quotes from
previous messages, resulting in increased bandwidth usage, which is still an
issue even in these days of broadband.

Bah it's no big deal. I've just about given up on Sun for support on their
product. I think I'll start running some tests with Windows Server 2003. I
heard that Microsoft offers a web only version of the OS. Would you guys
recommend it? Is it limited in any shape or form as far as ASP is
concerned?

I've been looking for a tool like this ever since I left my old job (and
consequently the Mac world). Ironically, these features (color coding,
auto-wrapping, etc.) were built into OE5 for the Mac.

Not ASP, but it cannot run certain apps, such as SQL Server.
