Write to file with ASP

1 New Member
Hello :o)

I need to get one of my pages to create a log of when users access it, aslo where these users came from.

The code I intend to use is...

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1.  Dim landingstats
  2. Set oFs = Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
  3.     Set oFile = oFs.CreateTextFile(Server.MapPath("/landingstats.csv"),2,True)
  4.         oFile.write adid & "|" & timestamp
  5.     oFile.Close
  6.     Set oFile = Nothing
  7. Set oFs = Nothing
  8.
Where adid is where the user came from and pridictabley timestamp is a date/time stamp.

When the page runs i get the following error code.

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'

Permission denied

/credit-report/landing.asp, line 12

How do i set the permissions?

Many thanks in advance,
Liam

Hi Liam,

Presumably the permissions we're talking about here are those on the folder which you're trying to create a log file in. Have you checked the security settings for this folder (right click on the folder and select Properties then Security Tab) ?

What security settings are you using for your website within the IIS e.g. are you running it with anonymous access or windows authentication?

Hi. I've a problem of being able to create and remove a directory but unable to write a file inside the created directory for some strange reason. I suspect that this problem could be vaguely linked to Safe mode being set to On since my site is using shared server hosting and probably insufficient/incorrect Unix file permission. Below is my test script that helps me narrow down the problem....

Hello All, Our application write logs to a file in a folder. Before our application starts writing to that file, I want to check if the current user has write access to that file, for example, "c:\temp\LogFile.txt". I see several articles for setting file access permissions, getting file access permissions for a given user or current user - but the current user could also gain write access to the same file not just by explicit permssion...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
