I'm having trouble with Unicode encoding in DOM. As a simple example,
I read in a UTF-8 encoded xml file such as:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>
<aText>letter 'a' with umlaut: ä</aText>
And when I serialize it, it comes out encoded as ISO-8895-1. But I
don't think the problem is with serialization. In processing my XML
files, I'm matching bits and pieces of text and attributes with some

I have tab delimited text file which gets populated on daily basis via
automated process. New entry is written at the bottom. I need to create a
utility which makes a copy of this file with 10 most recent entries.
When I read line using StreamReader object it starts from the top, so
looping though lines and keeping track of the line is not helpful. Is there
anyway to start reading from the bottom or if anyone could suggest some other...

Okay, I had a previous post called reading an XML document. Since this post I
have revised my code and got it to work. Now, Like Derek had mentioned in
answer to my previous post, I am getting an XmlException. The error message
is invalid date SEMICOLON expected at Line 1 Position 380. Derek you had said
something about the UTF encoding attribute in the xml declaration, it is in
fact UTF-8. So if this is my problem or what is causing the...

I have a log file that puts the most recent record at the bottom of the file. Each line is delimited by a \r\n
Does anyone know how to seek to the end of the file and start reading backwards?

hi!
I have the following problem. I need to read data from a TXT file our
company receives.
I would use StreamReader, and process it line by line using ReadLine,
however, the following problem occurs.
The file contains characters with ASCII codes above 128. But the file is
still text (nothing like UTF7/8 or the like). It also might contain + signs.
As a result:

I'm creating a page that:
- accepts user input in whatever language
- saves that input to a file
- reads the file and displays the original input
The following code successfully writes the user input to a file (when I
open the file, it's in the correct font), but I can't get PHP to read
the file and display the correct characters.

So now when I read the file:
import codecs
f = open ('myfile')
test = f.readline ()
print test.decode ('utf-8')

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
