Related drop down lists all populated from database

5 New Member
Hi,

I have 3 related drop down menus all of which need to be populated from database. In the first list i populated the values from the database.
But i have trouble to proceed further.

The second has to be populated in based on the value chosen from the first dropdown and the third from the second.

I cant use submit button(so cant refresh page) and the second drop down has to be populated. So iam trying to collect the values into an array and use it in the VBscript(client side). This is also failing.

Can anyone please suggest how this can be done.

Thanks!!
John.

John,

I have seen this done in two basic ways. The first is to submit the form using a javascript function every time a selection is made (this.form.subm it()). The second is to have a lot of different versions of the second and third selects present and hidden on the page, then revealed when the appropriate selection is made. I have tried both and they work just fine (the second option is heavy on the javascript and the file is much larger. I tried it on an intranet system where I knew every user was using the same browser, I would be a little worried about my abilities to program this on the internet). Theoretically you could use ajax or advanced javascript to reconnect to the db after each selection and rewrite the other selects. This is kind of a variation on method 1, and I feel more confident using ASP, so I wouldn't try this if it was me, but do what you think you can do.

Hi, I have 2 drop down lists on an asp.Net page. The 1st contains alphabets. When the user selects an alphabet frm the first list, the second drop down list should be populated with names from the sql database, which begin with that alphabet. For this I used an sql data Adapter & created a data set. The user's selection in 1st list is passed as parameter to the sql statement.

Hi, I new to C# so please forgive me if this is simple. I've got 2 drop down lists the first is hard coded with data where as the second is populated from a database. The options that appear in the second should be determined by what is selected in the first drop down list. When the page loads it automatically populates the second list with the default value via a proceedure: public void popDDL(string dbName)

Hi all, I hope someone can help with this relatively simple problem. I am building a timesheet application using ASP.NET C# with Visual Studio 2003.As it is only a protoype application, my database has been made in MSDE. My question is simple, on my Projects form I have a 'search' button, which when clicked re-binds a datagrid with a RowFilter based on a number of user-input parameters. Two of these parameters are drop-down

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends, With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
