I have built an assembly (dll) from which I expect third parties to
subclass. As a result, when my assembly has a version change, it will cause
any third party assembly based on it to break unless I establish a Publisher
Policy file. So I have that.
I have built a Windows app for the same product. This app prompts the user
for a path to a third party assembly that depends on my assembly. It opens
the third party assembly (Assembly.Load)...

I have an application written for mod_perl and Apache that needs to be
able to send some XML queries to a WebMethods server for access to
corporate systems. I have been attempting to use LWP to POST my XML
query to the target WebMethods server and find I only get 401s
(authorization errors) from the WebMethods server when it is
configured for username/password authentication. If credentials are
turned off on the WM server, I can get my...

I've developed an single sign on web application that we'd like to use with
all the applications we're developing. The application's connection string
is stored in web.config. I've gotten some basic functionality worked out and
I'm attempting to test it on another application, whose connections string to
another database is also stored in web.config. I make a reference in the
testing application to the authentication application dll, but...

Hi,
I am trying to prevent an assembly being loaded from GAC and instead want it
loaded from the application's base directory. However, the assembly always
gets loaded from GAC. How to have it loaded from the application directory?
I read about the bindingRedirect trick in the NG, however, specifying
bindingRedirect did not work for me. Also, MSDN library states that
"Application configuration files can have a codebase setting without...

Hi,
After deploying ASP.NET webservices to clients testing environment, some
problems occured with assembly versioning. Exception log showed that CLR
ignores <bindingRedirect> tag and it's contents in Web.config file, which
worked fine on our development environment:
<runtime>
<assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">

Folks,
I've been building a Webservice API for a contract that will be exposed to
the internet at large. There are two endpoints, and each endpoint contains a
number of webmethods. Every webmethod returns a returncode which indicates
the level of success in performing the operation (as well as the actual
results of the call in an "out" parameter)
They have a requirement that when they want to perform maintenance on the
backend system,...

I have placed my assemblies in different folders (as per project req.). I am
using config file with <codebase> option and registry with codebase option
(COM Interop) to enable the runtime to locate the assemblies. Will I face any
problems in future versions due to the usage of 'codebase' option? What
precautionary measures need to be taken if the 'codebase' option is used?

I have pasted the part I'm interested in below. My company doesn't use
versioning or the gac and I'd like to. We're on vs.net 2005 & .net 2., is
this still true or has it changed since then?
thanks

Here is my config file for foo.exe. I have two versions of FooServer in the GAC, 1.0.0.1 and 1.0.0.2. "foo" was compiled for 1.0.0.2. I want it to use 1.0.0.1 but it still calls 1.0.0.2. Fuslogvw is not showing any problems. I can tell that foo is reading the config file, since putting bad values in there causes an error, but it seems to be ignoring the bindingRedirect tag.

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
