NTFS permissions

Hi folks

Let say I have one virtual directory (IIS 5.x) pointing to a folder
on my G: drive what would be the minimum NTFS permissions (w2k pro)
for users & groups on this folder considering I'm running ASP 3.0 with
an Access DB?

That depends on your site. Is it using anonymous access? If so, the IUSR
account will need to be able to read the ASP files to serve them. Will
files be uploaded? If so, IUSR needs permissions to write files. Will you
be using authentication? If so, your users will need rights. Have you
looked at the permissions that already exist in other directories in your
site?

And is G: a local drive?

Hello group! I'm having a problem and I hope some of you may be able to point me in the right direction. I inherited a web site using php, running on Windows 2000 & IIS. The site was developed by a consulting firm about a year before I came on board, the consultant has since gone out of business. Overall, I've never had a problem with the site and have been able to figure out nearly everything they configured on it.

Hi, I'm trying to write a script that will allow validated users to download a file that has specific ntfs permissions. Here's a summary: Scenario: 1) The name of the file is "binary.zip". 2) I've created a local account on the server called "dl_user". 3) dl_user is the only account that has permissions on binary.zip. 4) I've written a script that validates several people to access a web

Project: ---------------------------- I am creating a HTTPS File Transfer App using ASP.NET and C#. I am utilizing ActiveDirectory and windows security to manage the permissions. Why reinvent the wheel, right? Everything so far is working well with the Active Directory. The problem I am having is with adding File Permissions to a directory. I am currently using some code courtesy of "Willy Denoyette "

Hello, I’m currently having some difficulties finding an example and the recommended practices for setting NTFS Permissions on Files and Folders. I will also need to do some impersonation and I keep seeing what seems to be different libraries and methods every time I go to a new page. My situation is as follows: I’m going to be running an ASP.NET/C# program under the identity of a very restricted IIS User that doesn’t have much...

Hi there, well i am stuck on a problem with regards to obtaining security permissions on folders. At the moment I have created a simple treeview example which shows all sub-directories in a tree form for a particular directory. Then I wanted to see how the application would handle a sub-directory(test1) if the current user logged on win2k box didnt have the permissions to access test1. The application throws an exception

I am starting to think there is some kind of conspiracy :) but everywhere I try to locate some (working) code showing how to change NTFS partitions on a network share I end up at a dead end. I found tons of references to a tech note (below) but MS seems to have 'lost' it :) Any ideas? http://support.Microsoft.com/?id=818362 --

Hello all, I have searched far and wide for a solution to my issue. In short, here is the problem: 1. 3 PC's enter data into an Access 2003 database (PC's are running Vista w/ Office 2007 pro). The database has been used for a long time and we haven't upgraded it to a 2007 version database. 2. One of the PC's hosts the "master" database, the 2 others are using Replica's of "master" database. At the end of each work day, the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
