Show your code.
Show your data.
Show what is happening that is not as you expect.

Hello there, I'm writting (or trying to) a Console Application in C#. I has to be console. I remember back in the old days of Cobol (Unisys), Clipper and even Basic, I used to use a program (its name i cannot recall now...) where I designed the "screen" using this "program" and then saved it into an ASCII file. (thus, using 'extended' ASCII's like Lines, Corners, etc. and making screens look nicer and more professional). Then reading a...

Hi, I produce a text file using my windows application written with c#. -- System.Text.Encoding encOutput=null; encOutput=System.Text.Encoding.UTF8; StreamWriter sw=new StreamWriter(@"c:\a.txt",false, encOutput); -- this UTF-8 file will be used to transfer data to another database's import wizard. Unfortunately db that will import requires the file to be

Hi, I am trying to output a string of chinese characters as a text file. When I open a file for writing from VB, the file is automatically set to UTF-8 encoding (can tell by opening the file from notepad). However, when I open this file from a Chinese program that does not support unicode, garbage is displayed. So what I have to do is to first use Notepad to change the encoding of the file to ANSI encoding, then the file would be...

Hi, I've got a problem using StreamReader in VB.NET. I try to read a txt file that contains extended characters and theese are removed from the line that is being read. I've read a lot of articles about ANSI encoding like this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;889835 but System.Text.Encoding.Default don't work!!

Hi, I'm in the process if converting the data out of an old DOS-based SunAccounts system (don't ask!) into SQL Server. The data has been sent to me as a collection of hundreds of SunAccounts backup files and it's a simple (yet extremely laborious!) process of opening each backup file in turn, reading the file line by line, splitting it up into its constituent parts, and then squirting it into SQL Server.

Hello everybody, since days i try to convert Unicode-Strings in VB.NET to ANSI which should be processable in VB6 and converted to unicode again. It should be possible with any codepage, e.g. somebody on a greek PC should be able to handle chinese strings -------------- VB.NET ---------------- 'On the vb.net side (I am pretty sure, it is correct(?)) Dim oEncoderAnsi As System.Text.Encoding

I have written an application which uses a streamwriter to create which is exported to a third party system. The third party system does not appear to process the files in its original format. I have identified this as resulting from the streamwriter outputing in Unicode. If I open the text file using notepad and save it with the default 'ansi' type the import works fine. How can I convert the initial file to ansi. Thanks in advance...

Hello there, I am dealing with files encoded in UTF8 and I can't find a way to convert them into ANSI. I've already searched in google for this since a while, and I'm not achieving the result I want to achieve if I use the code I've found on the web, which is the following: Example of test.txt (save it as UTF8): "éàèüöä" string filePath = "c:\\test.txt"; StreamReader fileStream = new StreamReader(filePath); string fileContent =...

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it. First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
