CLASSIC ASP VBscript Detecting when a session is abandoned.

G
Hello,

I want to launch a pop-under survey when a user leaves my page by closing
the window, but NOT by leaving the page via a hyperlink or form submission.

Is this easy to accomplish with ASP?

Thanks in advance,

G.

What about if they leave by typing a url?

ASP is server side code and therefore executed before the page is returned
to the client. You **might** be able to do what you want using client-side
javascript.

this is quite tricky because there are so many possible ways to manipulate
browser windows,

you can detect if a window is being closed usign JavaScript, on which you
could launch a tiny popup window to do whatever it is you want to be doing
whan a user exits your site...

but,
what if a user opens a second instance of your site by right-clicking a link
and selecting "browse in new window", and then closes the first window a few
minutes later, while the second one is still used...

It seems that Microsoft not only does not need the classic Visual Basic developer army (the largest army of developers the world has ever seen), but now they don't need ANY Windows developer at a small or mid-sized business. http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.msdn.general/browse_thread/thread/9d7e8f9a00c1c7da/459ca99eb0e7c328?q=%22Proposed+MSDN+subscription+changes%22&rnum=1#459ca99eb0e7c328 Damn! Hello everyone, Please help me before I throw my computer out of the window: I'm working on a web application in classic ASP (vbscript), which is making calls to some webservices. The calls are made using SOAP - i installed the SOAP3 toolkit on my windows 2k server to enable this. The webservice calls are returning String Arrays which I can't seem to do anything useful with. The call shown below returns a string array with two...

My project currently requires that I integrate an ASP.NET application with an ASP application. One of the issues I'm having is that I have some very long strings being created in an ASP.NET application that need to somehow appear in a classic ASP session. The strings are too long for cookies or URLs and I'd like to avoid using a database or someother temporary server storage. So far what I've come up with is a .NET class that "spoofs" a...

my company has a large web site written in old asp, vbscript, and a little javascript. I am trying to convert it over to ASP.NET C# as we add new features instead of having to write the new items in both the old crap and new format. I have one of the old pages calling an aspx page which displays correctly BUT when I put the events (for example a Button Click event) in the code behind it fails. I tried to move the C# code into the top...

Hi, I've got a web application written in ASP class with VBScript. We have a home grown conctact management system for my company that our users stay active in throughout the day. My problem lies with the continued timeout we sometimes experience. I have tried just about everything to allow an 8 hour timeout for this application. I've set the session timeout to 480 in IIS (running IIS 6 on windows 2k3 SE) and i've also tried coding it in...

Hi I'm using the Session_End event in the global.asax to detect if a users sessions has ended. Is there any way to tell if the session end is due to it being expired and not abandoned? I'm trying to show the user a popup if their session has expired due to a timeout. Whats the best way to do this?

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
