Hi,
I am going to write a client/server based application with for Linux in C++. I
am programming C++ on purpose.
There are many tutorials out there how to create a new socket, and receive and
send data.
The only thing those tutorials do not cover ist how to handle the data which
arrives over the NIC. Do I have do implement my own kind of networkprotocol

Is there a fairly painless way to set a montior's refresh rate under Windows
XP in C/C++? My problem is that my work monitor occasionally resets itself
to 60 Hz, which causes me to go home with a headache if I don't catch it.
I'd like to have a little program I could run at startup to switch it.

Hi,
Is it possible in anyway to load a file into memory and then run it
from there? I am working on a file compressor
(www.nemokprod.go.ro/nb.htm) that can compress and encrypt and save
multiple files as an exe file that can then run the compressed files
after unpacking them to a temp folder. The problem is that I have to
unpack the files to the hard-disk and then run them from there, making
them vulnerable to user that may try to get...

As per Google's Usenet archives
http://groups.google.com/googlegroups/archive_announce_20.html], the
first discussion of the Y2K problem on the Usenet was on January 18
1985 http://groups.google.com/groups?threadm=820%40reed.UUCP]. That
is a good 15 years before the problem manifested. Even then, it
turned out, we were scrambling for cover when the D-day was
approaching.
Although the Y2K scare turned out to be vastly overblown, we do...

I'm interested in finding a way to test the keyboard buffer
for MT/Not MT. Tried kbhit() in system.h but it didn't do
what I thought it would from reading the literature.
Samples: Compiler Docs said,
"Detects whether a keypress is available for reading."
Herbert Schildt said,
"If the user has pressed a key, this function returns
true(non-0), but does not read the character.

OK, I don't know if this is Off-Topic for the group(s), because "QT" isn't
"Pure C++", and Slackware is a distro, but those guys are sharp. :-)
And I've crossposted to sci.electroncs.design because I can. ;-P
Anyways, I want to crow about what I've done. I've been dabbling, kind of
poking away at the QT tutorials, but when I get to the "Now, write some
C++ to make it all go", I kinda hit a railroad crossing. ;-) So, I
downloaded...

A recent post asking for help with unions reminded me of this
component of the C language that I have only used a couple of times,
and those almost entirely out of personal whim -- Unions for the sake
of Unions simply because I wanted to see one in action.
Granted: it makes it possible to save a few bytes of storage when you
have something that can be a chicken or a rooster, but not both, and
you're always going to know which it is.

I'm using a very abbreviated set of code to show a calendar. The idea is to
simply hide the calendar when it loses focus. I'm displaying the calendar in
a span tag. When that span loses focus, I recurse through its children. If
focus was lost to a child, then I want to keep the calendar visible. I'm
using the element.all to...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
