Hi Folks,
I'm a brand new Python programmer, so please point me in the right
direction if this is not the best forum for this question....
I would like to open an existing MS Excel spreadsheet and extract
information from specific worksheets and cells.
I'm not really sure how to get started with this process.
I ran the COM Makepy utility from my PythonWin (IDE from ActiveSTate),

I've seen a few attractive multi-column sites whose geometry is based
on pure CSS-P, but they're what you might call "code afficionado"
sites, where the subject matter of the site is "coding practices." (One
example of this is alistapart.com.) However, the project/development
realities for small boutique sites are completely different from those
of large commercial or institutional sites -- and I was curious to see
what coding approaches...

Hi all...
While looking around for tools to create Excel files from either HTML pages
or the Data I use to assemble them, I got an interesting response from a
vendor. I have looked at Apose, and may end up using their product. I am
also looking at the capability of SQL Server 2005 reporting services to
produce multi-worksheet workbooks.
However, a vendor that does HTML to PDF conversion asked me why I have not
used Office Open XML...

The group and search engines revealed many hints on how to use the
'Open With...' dialog, for example at:
http://www.codeproject.com/csharp/openwith.asp
Now in addition to a solution as presented in the tutorial above, I
would like to remember the application that was chosen, so that I
don't have to ask the user next time.
The situation I'm trying to tackle is as follows. Our application

I've seen a few posts on other sites discussing how to save an excel file, word file, or other office doc as a pdf document.
In general, seems the solutions have been pretty complicated or involved trying unsuccessfully to use the undocumented AdobePDFMakerForOffice class.
One quick fix that could save time for others, and is not too difficult, is to use the Execute() method of the Excel.Application.CommandBars class. It's definitely a...

Hello All,
Does anyone know of a method to automatically detect if a file is
corrupted ?
Due to a failed backup process a number of files were corrupted. The
files are mostly .xls, .doc, .pdf. When you try to open the file, a
dialog box opens stating that the file cannot be opened.
I need to log which files wont open properly, and I'm hoping there is
a way to automate the process.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
