I have a server app which is sent a date in the local format of the client
machine. I've no control over the client app at all, so have to code at the
server end to cope with any problems. The server is in the US, so any
dates need to be in US format before they will convert using strtotime()
Here is what i'm doing at the moment..
// need to convert date to use USA mm/dd/yyyy format on server
$split = explode(",",$_SERVER);

Greetings.
I am confused about C++ standard library locale stuff. It seems as if the
implementations of locales are not part of the library, but only some
guideline classes are there.
What is the standard conformant way of formatting and parsing locale
specific date, time, strings with various character encoding, etc.

Hello,
In the init-script contained in the RPMs downloadable from the PostgreSQL
site (I checked the one for Fedora), an explicit locale is set before
running initdb. - And the explicit locale is not "C".
This means that a PostgreSQL installation will not use indexes for LIKE
queries (I just ran into this). See

I have been struggling to get a simple program for inserting and
extracting std::tm objects to/from streams to work. The code below tries
to read a std::tm object from a std::istringstream but fails to do so,
could anybody see what is wrong with the code? (Output follows the code.)
I fear that I have not completely grasped how the time_getXXX methods
should be used in the operator<< ?

I have a development environment, in which the whole SQL syntax is
stored in the Database.
So the syntax in the databse column could be

I have a console application written in C# which i call from a stored procedure via a xp_cmdshell call. Amongst over things this app writes a date to file, this date is formatted according to the current locale via the call to datetime.tolongdatestring(). Now if i run this app directly via the command line the date is outputted according to the NL (dutch) locale I am in. Fine.

I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
