Is it possible to force a download without using the readfile function? My website setup consists of my server that serves the web pages plus a high-speed file server elsewhere on the internet that servers my files. I'm currently using header("Location: abc.com") to redirect my users to this other site but can't force a download. I can get it to work using readfile() but that means the file moves from the high-speed server through my...

I am designing a document management system (DMS). The files are stored in a directory on the webserver. The filenames for the documents are stored in a MySQL database. The DMS will track revisions from the initial version through the updates. We must have strict permissions set so only authorized personnel can access some documents. All of the documents when uploaded are given totally random names such as "114723fb5422c6bd5ed18f6.doc"....

Our production database in an exported textfil runs about 60 MB. Compressed that's about 9 MB. I'm trying to import the export into another machine running FC3 and mySQL 11.18, and it appears as though the file may be too big! When I try to do it via command line: mysql -u root --host=localhost printing < ./printing.txt It eventually errors out with a "syntax error on line X" and only about

Short of zipping my file, are there any other alternatives to the below? I'm trying to add anchors in code and I need the link to force a download of the .pdf rather than open a new window or worse, open the file in the current client browser window. Is there something I can change about the anchor itself to force this behavior? I did not have any success with the "content-disposition" articles suggested. Here is my very normal anchor...

Hey Guys I have a web application that allows users to download files. But the files are not hosted on the webserver. The files are stored on external servers and are referenced by a URL/URI. Since my application restricts the number of downloads for the file per user, i cannot show the user the URL/URI of the server hosting the file. Therefore i need to some how route the file via my webserver, and then use the Response to stream the...

Hi All, I need to know how do we implement a file download feature in ASP.NET. As we see in the MSDN sites (say when we try to download the .NET famework) , refer this URL http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en On click of a download button we get a pop up window which will ask the user to either run or save the file . How is this implemented?

I am developming a web application in ASP.NET (VB) and am looking to develop functionality where a user clicks on a link to download a file but at no point can the user see the actual URL link to the file. When the file is originally uploaded to the webserver it will be given a unique random filename and the link to the file + description sill be stored in sql server. Basically the system must be secure so that a user MUST go through...

Note: You may skip to the end of the article if all you want is the perl code. Introduction Many websites have a form or a link you can use to download a file. You click a form button or click on a link and after a moment or two a file download dialog box pops-up in your web browser and prompts you for some instructions, such as “open” or “save“. I’m going to show you how to do that using a perl script. What You Need Any recent...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
