Some time ago I set up an ASP application that used a login page which
checked a username and password against a database to determine a users
authorization to access certain pages on the site. This was done by setting
a session variable within the application if the user was authorized and
using code one each page for which protection was required to check for the
status of the session variable.
Now I am aware of the various techniques...

Is there any one who has actually done this. I have now scanned more web
articles about this with the realization that not one of them (including
MSDN docs) outlines how to do this. This is beyond frustration. It seems
that with every new VS release the documentation falls further behind.
What I want to do should be simple but I can find no way to do it with VS
with any visual designer support. I thought the 'V' in VS stood for...

Hi there,
I am busy writing a new asp.net application and I am reusing some of my
existing asp functions and methods in a user control. I need access to
session, request and response in some of the functions and I can't find out
how to do it. Here is an example of what I do and I get the following
Cannot refer to an instance member of a class from within a shared method or
shared member initializer without an explicit instance of the...

I'm currently using ASP.NET with VS2003 and SQL Server 2003. The ASP.NET app
i have made is running on IIS v6 and consists of a number of pages that allow
the user to read information from the database into classes, which are used
throughout the application. I have made class collections which, upon reading
from the DB, create an instance of the class and store the DB values in
there temporarily. My problem is that if user1 looks at...

Hi
What is the recommended way to store a user's database credentials across
the pages of a web application so that each time the database is accessed the
system doesn't have to ask them for their username and password again
We have previously stored these in a session variable (encrypted) and
retrieved from their - but are worried about the impact on performance if the
number of users increases.
Had thought about cookies but worried...

Hello,
I am just planning a new ASP.NET site, and wondered about the best way
to handle the following common scenario...
The site has the option that registered users can log in and will have
access to extra features. The log in form is a simple username/password
affair that will appear in the margin of every page if they aren't yet
logged in. If they are logged in, their user name will be shown, along
with a button to log out.

problem, but can't seem to find my exact scenario, so hopefully someone
can get me back on the right path. my situation is the following:
i have a asp.net app that uses formsauthentication, and in the UserData
field we store the role value of what the user is (ie admin, user,
etc.). i want to also store the user id in this UserData field so i

Hi,
This might seem a little bit disjointed. My boss is suggesting I take
a certain approach to something. There is a private section of the
intranet (its essentially its own section as few users would have use
for it or even know of its existence) and when a user logs on to the
home page of this intranet site ASP should verify that they are
allowed to be there (based on them logging on to the network when they
logged on to their PC).

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Dear forum friends,
With the development of smart home technology, a variety of wireless communication protocols have appeared on the market, such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. Each protocol has its own unique characteristics and advantages, but as a user who is planning to build a smart home system, I am a bit confused by the choice of these technologies. I'm particularly interested in Zigbee because I've heard it does some...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

The next Access Europe User Group meeting will be on Wednesday 1 May 2024 starting at 18:00 UK time (6PM UTC+1) and finishing by 19:30 (7.30PM).
In this session, we are pleased to welcome a new presenter, Adolph Dupré who will be discussing some powerful techniques for using class modules.
He will explain when you may want to use classes instead of User Defined Types (UDT). For example, to manage the data in unbound forms.
Adolph will...
