Newbie question:
In Perl I could do #perl -c myscript.pl and with that "-c" it won't run,
but will just "compile" it, so I get all my syntax errors. Is there a
similar
thing in PHP? A way to catch my syntax errors before I actually run my
program.

I think everyone who used Python will agree that its syntax is
the best thing going for it. It is very readable and easy
for everyone to learn. But, Python does not a have very good
macro capabilities, unfortunately. I'd like to know if it may

Hi there. How come when in one file i unclude <cmath> i need to use
std::tan(...), and in another file i include <cassert> and std::assert fails
to compile. Nowhere in my code i do using namespace std; Seams like some
things in my header files are in std namespace and some are not. Is that
correct, or is my compiler (mingw, 3.2 i think) horribly broken? :o)

I've written an except hook into a script as shown below which works
well for the most part and catches exceptions.

def myexcepthook(type,value,tb):

sys.excepthook=myexcepthook
rest of script.... (now protected by catchall exception hook)

version, although I know version 0.6 came out recently) to debug my
program. My Linux box is a ubuntu, here I list its

I have a lot of except Exception, e statements in my code, which poses some
problems. One of the biggest is whenever I refactor even the triviallest
thing in my code.
I would like python to abort, almost as if it were a compile-time error,
whenever it cannot find a function, or if I introduced a syntax error. But,
instead, it merrily proceeds on its way.
Is there some idiom that you use in situations like these?
