I have a Windows 2003 server running IIS6.0
It has a number of ASP.NET sites running on it.
I'm trying to instal a legacy classic ASP site, but trying to access and
pages with the .asp suffix produces a "The system cannot find the file
specified." page, or when run locally a 404.
Interesting to note that when I make default.asp my default content page and
browse to /mydomain/ rather then /mydomain/default.asp, this page works
fine.

If you want to run ASP apps, you need to enable the ASP web service
extension. In Internet Services Manager, click Web Services Extensions,
select "Active Server Pages" and click the Allow button.

On my machine (W2003) I had Sharepoint portal server running, just the
default settings after setup together with .NET 2003. Now I tried out to
install Whidbey. Thenafter the Sites from SPPS couldn't be displayed
anymore (page not found). In the IIS configuration manager I can't show
any properties, mmc.exe always crashes trying to open a property page.
Adding/Deleting (virtual) WebSites is possible. I reinstalled the IIS
but the problem...

I wrote a monitoring program for IIS servers ( each Site under the IIS
/service/ is known as a *server* ).
This code (below) works on w2k, but not on w2003 and I think it might
just be naming conventions.
In w2k, each new site is indexed in active directory like:

The first visit to a newly created aspx page is always slow since it has to
be compiled once. Sequential visits are much faster.
We've tested our .NET webapp on two different machines : (a) Windows 2000 /
IIS5 and (b) Windows 2003 / IIS6.
During this testing, we noticed that Windows 2003 seems to remove the
compiled pages when it's not accessed recently (I think about 30 minutes).

Our webhost (www.usbusinessweb.net) had a W2K IIS5 server crash after a
scheduled hard-boot occurred during a ms-security patch install overnight.
They couldn't get the server working again so they transferred our site
www.orbisoft.com to a new W2003 IIS6 server they set up.
