I'm ashamed that I need to ask this question. I've been using PHP for
almost a year now, and have used HTML extensively in the last few
years.
Often, when I create a new site, I use include() to add an HTML header
at the top of the page and a footer (ususally including a menu) at the
bottom.
Up to now I've created two or more copies of each header and footer,
the only difference being the path to linked files. For example, in

I would like to make use of two separate PHP applications which happen
to share some class names; trying to include both from one script
results in the expected error, "cannot redefine class foo." or somesuch.
Using a fully qualified URL instead of the local file path in the
include() would work, except that the applications then do not have
access to the users cookies -- the requests are coming from the server
itself, not the user.

I am quite frustrated with php’s include, as I have spent a ton of
time on it already... anyone can tell me why it was designed like this
(or something I don’t get)?
The path in include is relative NOT to the immediate script that is
including it, but is relative to the top-level calling script.
In practice, this means that you have to constantly worry and adjust
paths in includes, based on the startup scripts that call these...

I am having problems with an include statement. I'm setting a session
variable flag and then including a file, and in that include file I have
a check at the top to make sure that the session variable is set,
otherwise I stop executing and redirect.
My problem is that this works if I use a relative path to the include
file, but not if I use the full path. If I use the full path, it does
not read the session flag as being set,...

Is it possible to have an include file that resides outside of the web site
parent folder?
For instance, lets say you have several websites under
Inetpub/global/websites/ but the include file is in Inetpub/inc/
I get a file not found error trying file/virtual starting with the root and
even using C:/Inetpub.

Say you have a file, a.h with an include guard.
If you include it twice and look at the preprocessed output, you see
there's no sign for the second inclusion.
However, if you include it twice - once from a relative path, and once
