IE6 & Word 2002 ... session not inherited?

Hi all,

[[ X-Posted as wasn't sure which group'd be better to ask ]]

I'm having a problem with Word 2002 when downloading a Word document with
IE6. This is in an intranet application, and the download occurs through an
ASP that does security checks (amongst other things) before passing the
document back to the client.

What seems to be happening is that, when the ASP sets a content-type of
application/msword, Internet Explorer starts Word and passes it the URL of
the document, and Word then tries to download the document directory. This
causes a problem as Word does not seem to get any of the session information
about the login, so is denied access to the file. The preferred behaviour
would be either for IE6 to download the file, and pass a temporary filename
to Word, or for Word to inherit the session so the download succeeds.

If I use a machine that does not have office installed, or choose "Save"
rather than "Open" when IE6 prompts for an action, then the document is
downloaded sucessfully and displayed embedded within IE6 without any
problem, indicating that IE6 is handling the download of the document rather
than Word. Thus I know the underlying ASP itself doesn't have any obvious
problems.

Has anyone got a solution for this? I've come across old (circa. 2002) posts
in Google regarding similar problems, but no solution seems to be
forthcoming. Q314535 on the MSDN details the same/similar problem with
Powerpoint, but I've not seen a related one for Word.

This has been tested with vanilla Office 2002, and also, SP1, SP2 and SP3
with IE6 SP1 (+ Q810847, Q813951) on XP Pro SP1.

Cheers,

Chris...

Hello, I have already read several existing posts about xsd:extension, but do not find something useful to my test case. I have one xml file and one xsd file. I can use a simple command line (C#) program to validate the xml file against the xsd file without any error. The problem is that when I validate the same xml file within VisualStudio 2003, I got five errors, which are all related to xsd:extension. It seems that those "problem"...

Someone please explain why Session_Start fires multiple times / retains SessionID values between sessions, when you open an ASP.NET page from MS Word. For details of the problem, see below: 1. Create a new C# ASP.NET web application named "demo" and modify Session_Start in Global.asax.cs as follows: protected void Session_Start(Object sender, EventArgs e) { Response.Write("Session_Start event fired at "+

I'm using Visual Studio .NET (not 2003), and am developing a class that works with Word theough the Office PIAs (Interop). I can open word and do things with it programatically, but I can't close it. Specifically, when I try to call the Quit() method on the application object, VB gives me the following error: 'Quit' is ambiguous across the inherited interfaces 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word._Application' and...

We are running an Access 2000 MDB with a SQL 7 back end. Our network guy is upgrading to Windows Server 2003 and wants to upgrade Office and SQL Server at the same time. We're moving to SQL Server 2005, and, since he already has licenses for Office Pro 2002, he wants to upgrade to that. I've been saying that we need to upgrade to Access 2003, not 2002, even if Office is kept at 2002. We are also looking to do a fair amount of...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
