I'm writing a shell script under Red Hat 9 that will process some thousand
records from a database so it'll normally take several minutes. According
to manual I can override the max_execution_time directive using the -d
switch. However, that switch seems to be ignored:
#!/usr/bin/php -d max_execution_time=1 -q

hi,
i have a web service that has file operations on Windows OS, and there may
be a file concurrency issue if only one working directory e.g. c:\working
therefore, i want to have a unique sub directory for each request so as to
get rid of any file concurrency issue, e.g
c:\working\unique-identifier1 for Request #1
c:\working\unique-identifier1 for Request #2

I have been working with setting my drop boxes to allow double clicking to
select an item.
It worked fine until I made some changes. I then stripped the page down to
the bare essentials to find out why it quit working. I found that if I
didn't have a linkbutton, it quit working?????????
If I changed the linkbutton to a regular button, it quit working.
Here is the page:

Hi,
I have a set of simple webservices calls that worked fine using .NET
Framework 1.0.
I am calling a Java/Apache based webservices, the calling side is not able
to supply a proper WSDL.
What it does is to call a webservice with two parameters, one being a
integer, the other one being a "String" which contains XML (not the best
practice, however that is the target interface and we cannot change that).

My shared-host doesn't allow php_value directives in .htaccess
I was using an "auto_prepend_file" on my local development machine,
that helped me implement a Session based authentication system.
Host said: "PHP is running as SuEXEC-CGI for security reasons"
and auto_prepend_file can only be put in php.ini ( system wide, out
of my control )
Now I'm back to Square 0. I'd prefer not to get stuck rewriting my

I have an app that is going berzerk on its own; without any code or
environmental changes of any kind, for some bizarre reason it will
randomly just hang, spawn multiple Apache processes and completely
ignore max_execution_time, literally running infinitely.
Using PHP 5.2.0, Apache 1.3 and Win XP
Is this normal "bizarre" behavior that can occur within this setup; if
so, what workarounds have you found to combat this, other than the...

In my .htaccess I currently have:
php_value session.save_path /var/www/app.example.com/tmp
I would like to have the php_value set to something like %SITE%/tmp
instead. This is because I also have some test instances which are
app-test.example.com and would like the session variables to go into /
var/www/app-test.example.com/tmp automatically, but I don't want to
have to keep changing the .htaccess files between the two directories.

Most computers default to English, but sometimes we require a different language, especially when relocating. Forgot to request a specific language before your computer shipped? No problem! You can effortlessly switch the default language on Windows 10 without reinstalling. I'll walk you through it.
First, let's disable language synchronization. With a Microsoft account, language settings sync across devices. To prevent any complications,...

Hello folks,
I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed.
This is as boiled down as I can make it.
Here is my compilation command:
g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp
Here is the code in...

Overview:
Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own....
Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
