Changing the default dialogue box border color in forms

88 New Member
Hi I'm a complete newbie and I was just wondering whether it is possible to change the border color of a form?

I designed the form in Access 2010 (default color Pink) and am now using Access 2013 which defaults to blue

My color scheme requires pink so I just need to know how I can change the Microsoft default border color?

Thank you

I looked and saw there was no property of a form that allows you to specify a border colour. This means it is controlled by the Windows colour scheme. To change that, you need to use Control Panel on each specific PC it will run on. There may also be an interface that allows you to do so programatically, but beware changing that in code. It will affect much more than this one application. To do so for someone else's PC without their express permission would be strongly recommended against - as it would essentially be malware.

All that said, for other people's PCs, should you want to see it that way on your PC then you should be able to do it quite straightforwardly via the Control Panel and Colour Schemes.

AFAIK: you're stuck here- the colours are usually set via the system, access Options, or thru the themes...

To see if the themes would have any effect:
- Make a backup of your database!
close the original database
Open the COPY
-- open a form
-- Switch to either Layout or Design View so that the context ribbon for form design becomes available
So in either Form Layout Tools>Design>Themes
or Form Design Tools>Design>Themes
There will be a Themes dropdown button and a colors dropdown etc...

Select that Themes dropdown, as you hover over the built in themes, if you were using the theme colours you will see the effect that clicking on that theme would have. DON"T CLICK once you do, the over all effects can change other forms.

Other than that you are out of luck.

Hargo,

One possible solution is in the Form Properties dialog. Set the border style to None. This will remove ANY Windows Themed border on the Form when it is opened. Then create your own color scheme. You can even change the color scheme for the Form that has the current focus (I am sure, but that would be outside this thread, and would be more involved).

MS Office themes are incredibly limited to three equally unappealing color schemes.

Yes, there are definitely some disadvantages of borderless forms, such as not being able to move them around on your screen. Changing themes may only affect the current machine, but I'm not sure.

Of course, if the standard window frame is acceptable, one could always change the form background colors....
