Assign sequential order

3 New Member
I have a list of term dates in a table: EEid, date Some EEid have more than one date. I'd like to crosstab the information so every EEid is on one line. I thought about autonumber but that would create too many headers. Is there a way to assign through a function a sequencial number that starts over when the next item is different?

12345 1/2/2005
12345 2/4/2006
12348 3/3/1994

to be:

12345 1/2/2005 2/4/2006
12348 3/3/1994
and so on.

My table has 41,000 records. Any suggestions?

Thanks Rabbit for the reply. I need to show the ins and outs of an employee's employment history. I'm trying to pull turnover numbers historically. An employee could be hired and termed in our system it only keeps the last term date on your regular one-line record. I'm trying to put the pieces together in order.

Example 1: hired 1/2/1994, termed 3/2/1994, re-hired 6/3/2000, termed 6/2/2007
our system would show the above as: hired 1/2/1994, termed 6/2/2007, rehired 6/3/200 on one line of record. In your history is the other termed transactional dates. How do I get the entire picture on one line. I'm open to suggestions.

You're looking at a bit of VBA coding or some subquerying/crosstabbing in SQL. Either way it's going to be complicated. Can the information not be viewed vertically as it is now?

I have a database that is pre-populated with sequential part numbers. As people reserve the parts I update a flag to show the # is no longer available. Now they want the ability to take out a block of "x" number of sequential part numbers - say for example 5. If my database had the following numbers available: 101 104 105 110

This is a challenge. Perhaps someone can offer suggestions. I am trying to create a variable, ordernumber, that increases by an increment of 1 every time the variable is accessed. For example: Call up the variable the first time: ordernumber = 1 "Reopen" the webpage, call up the variable a second time: ordernumber = 2, etc.

Hi All: I know this is simple, but I just can't seem to get there: I need to sort a table by a text field (txtDescription), then assign sequential numbers to the field SEQUENCE in table. Every time a new record is added, the all SEQUENCE #'s must be reset. The re-numbering will be triggered by an EXPORT button.

this is a slight change to a fequently asked question around here. I have a table which contains a "sortorder" column where a user can specify some arbitrary order for records to be displayed in. Users have sometimes ordered records the way we used to number lines in a BASIC program (10,20,30, etc.). I'd like to do an update query and fix...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>".
