Changing directories after a database split

I was wondering how I would be able to move the back end of a database
after I split it? Currently when i try to do it i get the error
"cannot find file path ........" Is it at all possible to edit where
the front end is looking? if so where?

Typically that is done programmatically. Keywords: Connect property,

At our company we often hard-code the back-end location because some
users can't be trusted to correctly find the new backend. If that
means having to release a new version when the BE location changes, so
be it.
