Hi

I would like to help, but I need some more information:-
  1. Is Access running only as a database?
  2. Do you have any forms, queries, etc, which run when you start Access?
It's not unusual for Access to hog the CPU at times, but usually when performing certain tasks.

Just a thought though, maybe Access 97 is just a little out of date...
